Diapers are a basic necessity—and no family should have to choose between diapers, groceries, or paying another household bill. ❤️
As we recognize National Diaper Need Awareness Week, I’m especially grateful that right here in Spokane Valley we have Partners Inland Northwest and the Inland Northwest Diaper Bank helping meet this very real need in our community.
Spokane Valley is fortunate to have organizations like Partners INW working alongside community partners to make sure diapers, wipes, food, clothing, and other essentials reach families who need a helping hand. These partnerships are an important part of building a strong community and supporting families during difficult seasons.
I appreciate the work they do and the partnership we have with them. This is what community looks like—local organizations, volunteers, donors, businesses, and neighbors working together to take care of one another.

Second Lady Spotlights Diaper Banks as Community Lifeline
Second Lady Usha Vance used National Diaper Need Awareness Week to thank the National Diaper Bank Network and local banks that supply diapers and wipes to new parents. In a video posted Monday, she said her own newborn has underscored the value of community help.
"Hello everyone, I'm so honored to partner with the National Diaper Bank Network during National Diaper Need Awareness Week. Our fourth baby is just a few weeks old, and his birth has reminded me how all new parents need support from their friends, families, and communities during this precious and important time."
She listed common forms of aid—meals, help with older children, hand-me-downs—then singled out diaper banks. "For many families, diaper banks are a critical source of community support. By providing diapers and wipes, diaper banks relieve financial stress, improve babies' health and comfort, and give new parents peace of mind during the early years."
Vance closed by crediting the people who keep the banks running: "So thank you all for gathering this week and supporting these important institutions. Whether as diaper bank staff members, volunteers, donors, or partners, your work gives every baby and every family the chance to thrive, and I'm so grateful for all that you do."
The week, observed September 14-20, draws attention to families who cannot keep a consistent supply of diapers. Diapers are not covered by SNAP or WIC, leaving many households to stretch limited budgets or turn to nonprofit banks. Vance has pointed supporters toward those banks before, including when she asked well-wishers to donate there instead of sending gifts for her fourth child.
