The Southern Middlesex Flood Mitigation and Resiliency Study is gathering input on flooding from residents to ensure local flooding areas are included in the study. Spotswood is one of ten communities that have been chosen, along with North Brunswick, South Brunswick, Helmetta, Monroe, Cranbury, Jamesburg, Milltown, East Brunswick and Plainsboro.

In addition to community input, the study includes:
• A detailed flood risk assessment
• A technical analysis of the major causes of flooding
• A comprehensive cost and funding analysis
• Feasibility studies
• Recommended strategies
• Concept designs for municipalities

The goal is to move from reacting to storm damage after the fact to developing strategies and prioritized actions that communities can proactively implement to help protect homes, businesses, and roads from floods and create more resilient neighborhoods.

If you've experienced recurring roadway flooding, stormwater backups, property damage, or other flood-related impacts, please take a few minutes to share your experience.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is coming to our area soon – and so are millions of visitors, which is anticipated to generate significant traffic congestion and delays in June and July. Matches will take place in East Rutherford, New Jersey (NYNJ Stadium) and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Philadelphia Field) from June 11 through July 19.

To help reduce congestion as much as possible and avoid getting stuck in traffic, the NJ Department of Transportation is strongly encouraging residents to:

-Skip non-essential travel on match days
-Plan alternate routes for commutes
-Avoid driving near stadiums where matches are happening between 5 hours before and 5 hours after kickoff
--If travel is essential, try to carpool
Check for travel alerts at 511nj.org

Please be advised that all Borough offices will be closing tomorrow, Friday, May 22, at 2 pm for Memorial Day weekend. We will reopen at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, May 26.

We hope you'll join us on Monday as we honor our fallen heroes at one of our annual Memorial Day ceremonies (schedule attached) and Memorial Day parade. The parade will start at Spotswood High School, head down Main Street toward the post office, and end at the American Legion on Devoe Ave.

Wishing everyone a safe Memorial Day weekend.

As we approach the Memorial Day weekend, you will see Spotswood's 2026 Hometown Heroes banners being displayed on our main roads.

On behalf of my administration, I'd like to thank the Cultural and Heritage Commission, my assistant Ana Przytula, Community Services Director Donna Faulkenberry, and our DPW Department for coordinating this initiative for our town.

But most of all, our deepest gratitude goes to the veterans and first responders who served our country and community, as well as the families of those heroes for purchasing a banner to honor their loved ones. You have made Spotswood very proud.

PUBLIC RELEASE May 11, 2026 UPDATE

The Borough of Spotswood has fully reimbursed the Spotswood School District for the payments that were missed as a result of the recent cyber‑theft incident. The Borough has worked closely with the District to ensure that all outstanding funds have now been restored.

The criminal investigation into the cyber‑theft remains active and ongoing. We continue to cooperate with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office as well as seek recoveries of the stolen funds from all sources. All monies we receive will be applied to the repayment of this debt, which will come due in May 2027.

I thank our residents for their patience as we navigate this complex situation and take steps to strengthen our systems moving forward.
