National Night Out: Strengthening Community Bonds in Texas
In the heart of Texas, communities come together on a special evening each year to celebrate unity, safety, and camaraderie. This cherished event, known as National Night Out, showcases the Texan spirit of neighborliness and collective responsibility. Originating as a simple idea to improve neighborhood security, National Night Out has grown into a powerful social phenomenon that not only enhances safety but also fosters lasting relationships among residents, law enforcement agencies, and local organizations.

Historical Roots and Evolution
National Night Out traces its origins back to 1984, when Matt Peskin, a civic leader and the executive director of the National Association of Town Watch, sought to devise a strategy to prevent crime through community engagement. This initiative began as a modest effort to encourage neighbors to turn on their porch lights as a symbolic gesture of solidarity against criminal activity. Over the years, the event transformed into a broader and more interactive gathering that encourages face-to-face interactions among neighbors, local law enforcement, and other community stakeholders.

Strengthening Community Bonds
At its core, National Night Out aims to strengthen the fabric of local communities in Texas. This event provides an opportunity for residents to step outside the confines of their homes, engage in conversations, and build meaningful relationships with their neighbors. These interactions create a sense of belonging, promoting a stronger attachment to one's neighborhood and fostering a collective responsibility for the area's safety and well-being.

Enhancing Law Enforcement Relations
National Night Out serves as a bridge between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. In Texas, as in many other places, fostering trust between police officers and residents is vital for effective crime prevention and community policing. During National Night Out, police officers and first responders have the chance to interact with residents in a relaxed and friendly setting. This interaction humanizes law enforcement personnel, breaks down barriers, and encourages open dialogue, ultimately leading to better cooperation and communication when addressing safety concerns.

Promoting Neighborhood Safety
Safety remains a central theme of National Night Out. While the event is about more than just crime prevention, its impact on safety should not be underestimated. Communities across Texas utilize this occasion to share crime prevention strategies, discuss emergency preparedness plans, and raise awareness about neighborhood watch programs. Such discussions empower residents with the knowledge and tools needed to proactively address safety concerns and make informed decisions to protect their homes and families.

Local Organizations and Businesses
National Night Out also provides a platform for local organizations and businesses to engage with the community. In Texas, these entities often participate by setting up booths, organizing activities, and providing valuable information. From distributing safety pamphlets to showcasing community resources, local organizations play a significant role in enriching the National Night Out experience and contributing to the overall welfare of the community.

Conclusion
In our community of Birnam Wood III, National Night Out transcends its initial purpose as a crime prevention initiative to become a celebration of community, unity, and mutual support. It exemplifies the Texan commitment to looking out for one another and working together for the common good. By fostering relationships among neighbors, law enforcement, and local organizations, National Night Out not only enhances safety but also strengthens the very essence of what it means to be a Texan — a proud member of a resilient, caring, and tightly knit community.

Hi everyone!
I hope everyone has had a little time to slow down after the busy season! Once again, I want to send my thanks for a GREAT 2023 season! 🏊🏻‍♂️👏
We finished 2nd place at divisional, and 1st place small team at Summer Champs! What an ending!👏

Many thanks to our never tiring Board of Directors for all their efforts and planning! 👍 Andi, Karyn, Amy, Shannon, Heather, and Robin 👍! Couldn't have done it without them! Their season is still going on, many events to plan and work out!

AND... all our parents! 👏 Thank you so much for all the donations for the fundraiser, the equipment that was lent to the team, and all the physical and exhausting labor of putting Divisionals together and cleaning up after. Because of the great response to our BBQ fundraising donations, we were able to pay all the entry fees for swimmers attending the Ponderosa and Trinity Invitationals! Both together totaled over $600 in fees! You all have been a fantastic group this season! Thanks again.

We have a lot of SENIORS that have been on our team for many years, who are aging out this season. I hope you enjoyed your little presentation at our party. That was all from your coaches! Thank you Guys and Gals! We will miss you!

To our coaches 👍 Andi, Shannon, and Kat👏 .... we couldn't have done it without you! You've had a monumental affect on all our swimmers. Much respect to you all and thank you!

Parents, swim season may be over, but we are still planning swim team family events! Family Movie Night in the Park, a team fundraiser, Trunk or Treat, and the Santa Ride! Lets keep our swim family together! Watch for announcements on Facebook and by email!

Thank you all!!!

Blue Marlins,

We are still in need of the 8 ounce size water bottles for ready bench for the swimmers. We need about 350 of them so any amount helps as reach that amount. If you can donate the half size water bottles, which are 8 ounces we are asking that you bring them to pasta night tonight at 6 PM.

Blue Marlins,

Pasta night is tomorrow at 6pm so let’s start to get our ingredients ready and prepare our dishes we signed up for!
We are so excited to get together with everyone and give our swimmers some energy to be at their best the next day!! See you at 6pm! Unless you are pasta set up volunteers then I’ll see you at 5:15pm.

WARM UPS!!! I have included the times for all swimmers warm ups.

WE NEED ALL OF OUR SWIMMERS THERE BY 6am-6:15am TO BEGIN GETTING READY FOR WARMUPS!!! I know it’s earlier than usual- but remember how many teams have to warm up before the meet begins- 6! Ours is first.

A few General Reminders- make sure to bring goggles, water (frozen water bottles work really well to keep the swimmers cool), wear your team swim cap and suit, wear sunscreen and REAPPLY it every 2 hours, and bring towels.

ABSOLUTELY NO ONE AT THE READY BENCH EXCEPT FOR SWIMMERS THAT ARE CALLED BY THEIR NUMBER. We will have a lot of teams there and a lot of people and we need to keep the ready bench area clear for the swimmers that need to be there.

BBQ Fundraiser: we still need extra large potatoes and 10 large watermelon donations! You can donate the silence. Please bring them to the morning practice tomorrow. A huge thank you to everyone who has donated!

Volunteers- we are still in need of a second shift griller, third shift crowd control, and second shift barbecue concession stand volunteers. Let’s end this season with a bang and make Divisionals all it can be!!

BLUE MARLINS ROCK THE BLOCKS!!!

06/14/2023

Blue Marlins,

T-2 days till Divisionals guys!!!! Are y’all as excited as we all are?!?! This is going to be a great one! But let’s ensure it is by all putting in our part.

Water and coolers!! We need cases of water and spare coolers to keep ice cold for the coolers that are keeping drinks cold. Please bring coolers and cases of water to practice tomorrow and Friday if you can.

BBQ FUNDRAISER!! This is a big one y'all. We absolutely have to have all items signed up for bbq stand donations on signup genius today.

If you did not bring it to morning practice then please bring them to pm practice. We need them ahead of time to begin preparing them for Divisionals!!
Also, we still need meat and additional EXTRA LARGE potatoes for donations for the bbq stand. Thank you all that offered to donate items!

VOLUNTEERS!! We still need volunteers for pasta night set up and clean up. We also need additional concession stand volunteers and BBQ stand volunteers for second and third shift. If you are lacking on your volunteer shifts to get back your volunteer check at the end of season party, this is the way. There are so many opportunities in the next few days that you can earn all of the credits that you need to get your volunteer deposit back, if you are unsure how many you need to get your deposit back, you can reach out to the check-in table and we will be able to let you know what you need in order to get the deposit back. We will also set you up with enough shifts to get that deposit back. We need all of the help that we can get for divisionals as it is a huge meet.

BOARD MEMBER NOMINATIONS can be turned in during morning practice on Thursday and Friday. We will not be able to take nominations during evening practice.

If you have any questions about anything, let the check-in table know, and we will be able to get the answers

Hello. Looking swim lessons. Does anyone offer swim lessons in the community?
Who wants to bring their chocolates to practice today and sell to Coach Taitlyn?

Thanks in advance !
Wish the Marlins the Best for 2020.
So, did anyone get pictures of that AWESOME unicorn last night? Believe it or not, I didn't.
I spied a couple of fishies tonight...
Good evening swim family,
If your swimmer has made it to invitationals either trinity or Ponderosa, we will still have practice.

Practice times will be as followed:
13 and up will be 9:25 am - 10:40 am
12 and under will be 10:45 am - 11:30 am

And for our summer school kids we will do a practice from 5:30-6:30

Thank you for all your hard work this season!

Blue Marlins coaches and board
Hi everyone!
Sorry for the late notice, but after requests from parents and approval from the board, I wanted to notify everyone I will be doing glitter and paint tattoos again this year at the potluck dinner this Friday night.

Venmo payments will be accepted all day. I plan to create a sign in sheet that shows who paid, so if you pay ahead, I can mark each child/parent as paid before the event starts. I want to try to make this as fast and easy as possible since we had a long line last year.

Here is a picture of my kids with last year's tattoos. This year, the tattoos are a different font and slightly bigger.

I tried to answer as many questions as possible in the pictures I have attached, but feel free to post any other questions.

FYI fish will be limited quantity. I'm running out of time to cut them, so they will be first come, first serve.
Thanks TNG Utility!

*The owner wasn’t there so they took a picture with their grandmother!
Good afternoon Birnamwood Blue Marlins,
As we wind down this years season, I just wanted to remind you of a couple of things coming up.

First off this is drag week, if you are not familiar with drag week, this is where our swimmers wear lots of clothes and do their normal practice....your swimmer should have on their suit, pants (sweats), and a couple of shirts, and at least one long sleeve (just make sure that they are clothes that you don't really care about any longer.

The second thing is that we will be having our annual Potluck on Friday at 6:30. Please see a board member to sign up for this potluck. We will provide the drinks, we need you to sign up for the main dish, side dish and/or desserts.

This weekend is divisionals and we will have all five teams at our pool this weekend, know that this is our longest swim meet all season. Please make sure that you keep your swimmers rested and well hydrated.

Can't wait to see you all at the blocks!

Thank you,
Blue marlins board
I want to clarify an email/post I made yesterday about summer school times changing. We are extending the afternoon (Summer School Hours) by about 15 minutes this is to allow for our summer school students who have to attend summer school still get in a good practice, normal morning (summer schedule) practice is still going on at it's normal time, this has not changed.
I hope that this has cleared any confusion up.

Thank you
Andi
