Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Daniel Rathe. The Klein community lost a great man yesterday. Dan was a long time Station 31 member, Station 37 member, Safety and finally District Chief. Dan will truly be missed by so many people. Thank you for all your years of service and knowledge given to others. We will take it from here.
From our families to yours!

Happy birthday Frances Paige Quinn!

If you are going to fry a turkey this year for #Thanksgiving, don't let a fire ruin your meal. What caused this massive fireball? We are glad you asked.
1. The pot was filled with too much oil.
2. The oil was overheated.
3. The turkey was still frozen.
Take precautions before you fry your turkey this year.
1. Fill the pot with the appropriate amount of oil for the pot and size of the turkey.
2. Heat the oil to 350 degrees.
3. Thaw, drain, and dry the turkey completely before placing it in the hot oil.
4. Make sure you have an ABC fire extinguisher nearby, in case of an accident.
Follow these tips for a fire-safe holiday.
Happy birthday Makayla Loeschen!!

It's not too late to get prepared.
We need to be prepared for the possibility of a hurricane impacting Houston/Galveston early next week.
Uncertainty is still high at this time until we get better data from the Hurricane Hunters, so we are not yet locked into any scenario. But our window to prepare is shrinking. It's time to shift from "awareness mode" to "early preparation mode."
Don't be surprised if this forecast cone for the center of Tropical Depression 14 shifts left or right in the next 24 hours. But we should have a better lock on the most likely landfall location sometime Friday after the Hurricane Hunter data has been fed into our more advanced computer models.
Right now the National Hurricane Center believes this could be a hurricane by the time it reaches the Yucatan Saturday. Restrengthening is also likely once it crosses into the Gulf, and it is *possible* this could be a hurricane when it makes landfall next week. There's still time to watch it, but we need to be prepared for that possibility. Also keep in mind intensity forecasting is the most challenging thing to predict with tropical systems.
Lots of info to come here and elsewhere in the days ahead. We'll continue to keep you calmly (and realistically) informed and aware.

Fire Safety Tip Tuesday: Why you shouldn’t double park on a residential street.
Let’s do some fast math:
1.If the average neighborhood street measures 24 ft wide, and the average automobile is 6.5 ft wide, how much space is left in the middle of the street if two cars park parallel to each other?
Answer: 11 feet.
2. Our Fire Engine measures 8.83 ft wide. If there is only 11 ft of clearance between the two cars parked on the street, will the apparatus be able to drive down the street?
Answer: Yes, but extremely slowly and with only about 1 ft of clearance on either side of the engine.
In the event of a residential fire, parking on both sides of the street can slow down our response time and increase the possibility for personal vehicle damage as well as damage to our apparatus.
Always try to stagger vehicles when parking on a residential street and park as close to the curb as possible.
Take a look at the images below to see what 1 ft of clearance looks like from inside the apparatus.
