This week we get to honor our hero’s behind the headset.

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize the calm voices in the storm—our 911 Dispatchers.

While you may only ever hear their voices, they are the link between between those calling, and our officers and first responders. They are your first point of contact during what could be your worst day. Their quick work, fast thinking, and abilities to multitask get you the help you need, and get it to you quickly.

Day, night, or a holiday, they’re here 24/7/365. They are always there and ready to take your calls, and assist you and all first responders.

To our Dispatchers: Thank you. Your sacrifices and dedication don’t go unnoticed. Thank you for being the calm voice in our storms.

The Springfield Police Department would like to wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas.

🚜🌾 Harvest Season Safety Reminder 🌾🚜

Harvest is right around the corner, which means more farm equipment will be traveling on our rural roads and highways.

So remember:

⚠️ Be alert – watch for tractors, combines, and wagons entering and exiting fields.
📵 Stay off your phone – distractions can be deadly.
🐢 Slow down & be patient – farm equipment can’t move as fast, but passing unsafely puts everyone at risk.
➡️ Give them space – wide turns and large equipment need extra room.

Let’s all do our part to keep them—and ourselves—safe this season.

Springfield Police Department wishes everyone a safe and successful harvest.

🚨 A Heartbreaking Reminder: Electric Scooters Aren’t Toys 🚨

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the St. Paul teen who tragically lost his life in an electric scooter crash this week. 💔 You can read the full story here:

As these scooters become more common in our neighborhoods, please help us spread the word: they may look like fun and games, but they’re fast, powerful, and can be deadly in the wrong hands. Most are designed for adult riders, with age and safety restrictions that are often overlooked. PLEASE DO NOT HAVE TWO KIDS ON A SCOOTER!

🛑 Talk to your kids.
🛡️ Helmets must be worn.
🚦 Stay off busy roads and intersections.
📵 No distractions—phones down, eyes up.
📚 Know the local laws and speed limits. (stop at stop signs, obey traffic laws, and ride with care!)

Let’s all work together to prevent another tragedy like this. One conversation could save a life. 🙏

A pickup driver struck them after the scooter reportedly ran a stop sign.

It’s finally summer! So that means kid’s are out and about.

We receive many complaints about kids on scooters operating them in an unsafe manner.

So as a reminder if your child is on a scooter, bike, skateboard they need to stop at stop signs, obey traffic laws, and ride with care!

If you have any questions please stop and talk with any of our officers and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have!

It’s EMS Week. And the 2025 Theme for EMS week is “We care. For everyone.” And that statement couldn’t be more true.

Thank you to our own Springfield Ambulance crew. These individuals show the true meaning of caring for everyone. We are a lucky community to have an ambulance service as great as this one.

It’s National Telecommunicators Week.
“A 911 dispatcher, also known as a public safety telecommunicator, answers 911 calls, gathers information from callers, and dispatches emergency services (police, fire, ambulance). They play a critical role in public safety by providing a link between the public and emergency responders”.

These are the voices that answer your calls We could not do our job without these people.

From the Springfield Police Department, thank you for all that you do for us.
