After the largest-in-history $55.9 Billion FY 27 State Budget was signed into law by Governor Pritzker on June 16, State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) issued the following statement:

“Each year we see the state increase spending, yet families and businesses continue to struggle to make ends meet,” Coffey said. “There must be accountability from our government and that begins with stepping away from the failed public policies are driving costs up in our state. Illinois families deserve tax relief, and I will continue advocating for policies that drive economic growth and lower taxes for the people of Illinois.”

2026 spring legislative session is in the books with several photos to look back on! But the work never stops to bring affordability back to Illinois and I look forward to working closely with my colleagues in the 105th General Assembly to make Illinois a better place to call home!

Last night's storms severely damaged an APL building that housed all of their animals. The community has come together and is working hard to protect the dogs and cats that have been affected by the damage. Now is the time to adopt a pet or provide a temporary foster home until the Springfield shelter recovers from the damage and has a new and safe facility.

The Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport also sustained significant damage and losses as a result of the storm. I was told three hangars filled with storage were destroyed along with property damage.

Wishing both facilities a swift and successful recovery following the storm damage. We're grateful that everyone is safe, and we appreciate the hard work of staff and volunteers as recovery efforts move forward.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal announced the recipients of the 2026 Small Equipment Grant Program. A total of $6 million was awarded to 260 fire departments/districts and EMS providers across the state, including the 95th District.

Congratulations to the Midland Fire Protection District for receiving $26,000 to improve community safety!

The grant will help purchase small firefighting and ambulance equipment.

When I first took office, I could not believe how the General Assembly conducts business under the dome and not much has changed. Democrat lawmakers had the entire spring legislative session to iron out a deal to keep the Bears in Illinois but obviously they fumbled.

Businesses are leaving Illinois because of endless tax hikes and mandates. In 2023 alone, our state lost 218 businesses to other states such as, Caterpillar, Morton Salt, Boeing, Citadel, Tyson Foods and now the Chicago Bears.

I hope a special session is called to save the Bears and lower property taxes!

On Friday, the Bears announced that its board of directors voted to advance its stadium project in Hammond, Indiana, promising to “transform the region.”
