🎊Celebrating Culture, Compassion, and Community!🎊

Asian Indian Women's Organization (AIWO) hosts an annual India Night Gala to celebrate India's rich culture and raise funds for charity. This year, the event supported Wooden It Be Lovely, a sanctuary for women that provides a healing space to live and grow.

At the formal check presentation attended by Mayor Misty Buscher, AIWO presented a check for $180,500 to Wooden It Be Lovely. This contribution is a testament to our community's commitment to supporting initiatives that make a meaningful impact on the lives of women in need.

Congratulations🎉 Wooden It Be Lovely, and thank you to AIWO for your efforts in making a positive impact in our community.

🦃Don't be a Turkey this Thanksgiving! Drive Sober and Buckle Up!🦃

Don't be a Turkey this Thanksgiving! Drive Sober and Buckle Up!!

This Thanksgiving, the Springfield Police Department is joining the Illinois State Police to ensure holiday travelers are buckled up and driving sober with a "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement campaign that runs through November 27th.

Thanksgiving means more vehicles on the road and an increased risk of crashes. No matter how long or short your drive, remember to buckle up and make sure children are in a safe seat. Buckle up and make a plan for a sober ride home and help everyone have a safe and happy holiday.

If you’ll be celebrating with alcohol or other impairing substances, please remember:
•Have a plan for a sober ride home before you go out.
•Use your favorite ride-share service, such as Uber or Lyft, call a taxi, take public transportation or ask a family member to get you home safely.
•If you see a drunk driver, pull over safely and call 911.
•Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. It is the best defense against an impaired driver.

This Thanksgiving enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Thank you to our first responders!

Today, on National First Responders Day, we honor and celebrate the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and dispatchers are all essential members of our communities, and we are grateful for their service.

On this day, we take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices that first responders make. They work long hours, often in dangerous conditions, and they are always ready to respond to emergencies, big or small. They are the ones who run towards danger when we run away, and they are the ones who put our safety before their own.

We owe a debt of gratitude to first responders for their courage, dedication, and commitment to serving our communities. Today, let's show them our appreciation by saying Thank You!

Well-deserved promotions were given to three dedicated officers who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to serving our community.

Sergeant Ryan Leach has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Leach has been with SPD for 17 years and has consistently exhibited outstanding leadership skills and a commitment to the safety and security of our city.

Officer Charles Peters has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Peters has demonstrated dedication to his duties and a commitment to community. Notably, Sergeant Peters is the first African American to hold the rank of Sergeant in the Springfield Police Department in over 18 years. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishment and grateful for his leadership.

Officer Adam Westlake has also been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Westlake has shown exceptional dedication to his role as a police officer, consistently going above and beyond in his service to the community. His promotion is a testament to his leadership qualities and professionalism.

The City of Springfield congratulates Lieutenant Ryan Leach, Sergeant Charles Peters, and Sergeant Adam Westlake on their well-deserved promotions. We look forward to their continued contributions to the safety and well-being of our city.

📣The BUILD Springfield Website is Live!📣

The BUILD Springfield website and data dashboard are an essential piece in Mayor Buscher’s goals of accountability and transparency with the citizens of Springfield. When City staff go door-to-door across the neighborhood, they will use our “Report a Problem” feature to intake complaints and assistance requests. This intake will be registered on the City’s database and routed to the appropriate City department for investigation.

The live dashboard will show real-time updates on each resident’s service request.
Residents will be able to track their service requests across three stages:
• Request received
• Investigation in process
• Investigation closed
This will allow each resident to hold us to our promise of proactive delivery of services with this program and help us, as the City, to review our performance critically.
