THE TRUTH ABOUT THE 1921 TULSA RACE MASSACRE
Brandon Tatum’s lies about the Tulsa Race Massacre didn’t begin with the recent viral clip. He’s been doing this for years. Back in 2021, during the 100th anniversary of the massacre, he was already pushing the claim that the story of Tulsa was a “big lie.”
Now he’s back, reducing one of the most horrific acts of racial terrorism in American history to a mere “conflict between Blacks and whites” where whites supposedly “got the better” of Black people.
No. That is not what happened.
Greenwood, Black Wall Street, was a thriving Black community. Black people were building businesses, owning property, creating wealth and living independently in the middle of Jim Crow America. A white supremacist mob descended on that community, murdered Black residents, burned homes and businesses, destroyed generations of wealth, and did so with the participation, support and sanction of government authorities and law enforcement. Over 35 blocks were burned, planes dropped bombs from the sky, hundreds were killed, and thousands were left homeless. The massacre was hidden from history books for decades.
That wasn’t a “fight.” That wasn’t two equal sides having a disagreement.
It was a racist massacre.
Tatum can have whatever politics he wants, but he does not get his own history. The facts are the facts. Tulsa was racial terrorism, and trying to rewrite it 105 years later does not make the truth disappear.
Put the racism back into the story. Put the victims back into the story. And stop lying about Tulsa.
