Illinois Coalition for Enforceable Victims Rights

Illinois Coalition for Enforceable Victims Rights We must amend the Illinois Constitution Section 8.1 on Crime Victims Rights, improving the language Among these rights are:
1. To information about the case
5.

Illinois passed constitutional protections for crime victims rights in the early 1990's. To be treated with fairness and respect for their dignity and privacy
2. To be notified of all court proceedings
3. To communicate with the prosecution
4. To a timely disposition of the case
6. To be reasonably protected, especially from the offender
7. To be present at all case proceedings
8. To have a suppor

t person or advocate
9. To restitution

HJRCA 29, sponsored by Rep. Lou Lang, will strengthen existing rights and allow victims to seek enforcement of their rights, insuring that all crime victims have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful way in the criminal justice system. Crime victims suffer every day in Illinois. Some of them suffer horribly for a very long time. There are few resources to help them. While the criminal justice system works very hard to protect the rights of the accused, the victims of these crimes deserve to have enforceable rights as well. Join the Illinois Coalition for Enforceable Victims Rights today! If you are in the Illinois Legislature, sign on as a co-sponsor. If you live in Illinois, urge your Representatives and Senators to vote for HJRCA 29.

Illinois General Assembly - Bill Status for HJRCA0029

Thanks to Rep. Lou Lang for his leadership this legislative session to pass HJRCA 29, which will dramatically improve the rights of crime victims in Illinois. Currently our constitutionally protected victims rights are unenforceable, due to unfortunate wording in the original amendment. Help make victims rights enforceable in Illinois! Help pass HJRCA 29.
