Obama Uses Young Latino Lives as Campaign Fodder: Romney Proposes Stronger, Comprehensive Policy that Keeps Families Together.
Washington, DC – Last week, President Barack Obama took action on an issue that is critically important to Latino lives – that of the status of young undocumented Latinos who came to America through no fault of their own. However, as has been noted by government officials and politicians alike, the action is only a short-term solution, composed of short-term deferrals of deportation and non-guaranteed work permits.
“It is outrageous that the president would so blatantly trade young Latino lives for political gain,” responds Manny Rosales, National Chairman of the Latino National Republican Coalition. “These young men and women with bright futures deserve certainty so they can move forward and achieve all that life has to offer them. The president has offered them false hope.”
Teri Galvez, Washington, DC Co-Chair for Romney for President, said, “As Romney said at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference, illegal immigration should be solved in a ‘civil and resolute manner.’ Romney’s plan is in keeping with our Latino values – an immigration system that would help promote strong families by keeping them together.”
Rosales continued, “Romney understands that this issue is both a ‘moral imperative...and an economic necessity.’ Romney’s comprehensive plan would give preference to the family members of citizens and legal permanent residents, streamline the temporary worker visa program, and give green cards to immigrants graduating with advanced college degrees and those who were brought to the U.S. as children and served in the military.”
The Latino National Republican Coalition is a conservative organization of Latinos who believe in limited government, free markets, traditional family values, security through strong international policy, and the supremacy of the U.S. Constitution.
