NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE FROM OUR 28TH NATIONAL PRESIDENT GARREN M. WALKER!

Happy New Year, Wildcats!

As we enter 2025, I am excited and honored to lead our association under the theme "Back to the Basics." This approach calls us to refocus on our strategic pathways: building bonds, advancing academic excellence, strengthening alumni engagement, celebrating traditions, supporting student success, and fostering inclusion, diversity, and collaboration.

To achieve these goals, we must work together, set personal differences aside, and chart a united course for the advancement of our association and beloved Fort Valley State University. Let’s face it—there is much work to be done. While this transformation will not happen overnight, through teamwork, dedication, and mutual respect, we can achieve remarkable progress.

Transparency and accountability will reside at the forefront of our efforts. We are committed to doing what is ethically and morally right in every instance, upholding the proud legacy of FVSU and safeguarding its heritage.

In the coming days, we will announce the positions filled to prepare for the work ahead. I encourage you to join us at our Strategic Plan Launch Party and Special Called Meeting on January 11, 2025, after which we will support our FVSU Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.

Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Let’s make this biennium a monumental chapter for the FVSU National Alumni Association with the "Back to the Basics" Administration.

In True Wildcat Spirit,
Garren M. Walker
President, FVSU National Alumni Association Incorporated

Congratulations to Jeremiah Washington!
Coca-Cola UNITED Launches New Student Internship Program

Thirteen college students are gaining real-world experience this summer working for one of the world’s biggest brands. The following students have been selected to participate in the new Student Internship Program hosted by Coca-Cola UNITED.

Jeremiah Washington, from Fort Washington, Maryland and a recent graduate, is the only, one of two, HBCU students selected for this Summer Internship program. Mr. Washington is a scholarship recipient of the FVSU Washington DC Metro Area Alumni Chapter.

“We’ve had internships for decades, but traditionally they’ve been department- or project-based,” said Jennifer Gullo, Coca-Cola UNITED Talent Acquisition Director. “We are working to formalize our college internship program, keeping students in a peer group so they can learn the entirety of our organization together.”

The eight-week paid summer program provides participants the opportunity to rotate throughout each department within Coca-Cola UNITED, in addition to spending two weeks shadowing in a department that aligns with their field of study. They also take part in weekly professional development workshops. The program is open to students from any college or university, and those selected are placed within UNITED’s six-state territory.
