The 1st Summit of Hope of 2026 was a tremendous success!

Held last week in Chicago, the Summit of Hope brought together more than 225 returning citizens with community leaders, service providers, employers, and government agencies, hosted by the Illinois Department of Corrections, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and GEO.

With support from more than 76 vendors, this event provided critical resources, including job interviews, ID and driver’s license assistance, healthcare services, recovery support, HIV testing, fresh produce distribution, vaccinations, and much more.

A special thank you to our government agency partners and community organizations for your participation and dedication to helping individuals successfully re-enter their communities. Your partnership continues to provide hope, opportunity, and support for those working to build brighter futures.

The Summit of Hope remains committed to reducing barriers, restoring lives, and strengthening communities, one person at a time. 💙

Yesterday, IDOC and IDJJ stood together at the annual Illinois Correctional Employees' Memorial Association (ICEMA) Ceremony to honor the memory of our fallen heroes, those who gave their lives in service, and to recognize the Correctional Officer, Parole Agent, and Employees of the Year. Pontiac CC recently celebrated the graduation of its fourth Defy cohort marking an incredible milestone of 121 total Defy graduates at the facility. What made Cohort 4 especially impactful was the involvement of 13 Peer Mentors, all Defy graduates, who returned to guide, support, and inspire the current class 💫

The Defy Ventures CEO of Your New Life program equips Entrepreneurs in Training (EITs) with the tools to succeed both personally and professionally. A highlight of the program is the Business Pitch Competition, where EITs present their ideas in a dynamic, Shark Tank-style format before panels of business leaders and investors.

The graduation ceremony honored each EIT as they earned a Certificate of Completion from Defy Ventures and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.

The continued growth of this program at Pontiac CC reflects a shared commitment from the facility and the individuals it serves to rehabilitation, opportunity, and second chances 👏
