South Carolina Section of AWWA The South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association represents over 800 water professionals and 66 water utilities in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) represents over 800 water professionals and 66 water utilities in the state of South Carolina. Established in 1881, the American Water Works Association is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water, the world’s most important resource. With approximately 50,000 mem

bers, AWWA provides solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life. AWWA members include: water utilities, treatment plant operators and managers, scientists, environmentalists, manufacturers, academics, regulators, and others with an interest in water supply and public health. AWWA works through advocacy, communications, conferences, education and training, science and technology, and local action among 43 AWWA Sections throughout North America.

The South Carolina Section of AWWA’s competition teams showed out at American Water Works Association annual conference .

The Hysteria Team from Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority placed 2nd. (Hunter Murray, Robert Lemieux, and coach Darius Witte)

The competitor, Ed Navarrete, from Mount Pleasant Waterworks placed 4th.

The team from BJWSA placed 5th. (Darius Witte, Robert Lemieux, Nathan Goodwin, and coach Andy Mattie).

Our teams competed against the Best-of-the-Best from across the nation (including some international teams). We are so proud of all our guys!

Our team from Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority brought home the silver medal in the Hydrant Hysteria competition! It may have been the tightest race in history, with with a fraction of a second separating the winners. Congratulations to all of the competitors!

We are extremely proud of Edward Navarette of Mount Pleasant Waterworks! He has been a stalwart in the American Water Works Association Meter Madness Competitions for many years and has represented our state well. The full competition starts tomorrow from 10-11:30am in Exhibit Hall Booth #3288…please stop by & hear about her PFAS/Microplastics research.
