Who knew Spanish class could get this spicy? Today, students traded their pencils for tortilla chips and put their culinary skills to the test in a Salsa Contest!

From muy picante to mango dulce, they tasted, voted, and crowned a salsa champion! 🏆🔥

Over the past year, Webster Groves School District residents have shared feedback through surveys, forums and community conversations about the district’s financial challenges.

Following that process, the Board of Education voted to place Proposition W, a 65-cent operating tax levy proposal, on the November 3 ballot.

If approved, Proposition W would help address the district’s projected $5 million funding gap and support student programs, services, teachers and staff.

On Wednesday, September 16, we had our very first WIN Time of the year! With the help of their Statesman Time teachers, students learned how to select their sessions from a list of offerings created by the outstanding Hixson staff. From sewing labs to volleyball to Kindness Crew to AI Slop, to Outdoor Pursuits, Strength & Fitness, Canva Creations, Google Drawings, 3D Printer Assembly, and Friendship Bracelets (just to name a few), there was something for every student!

The Hixson Administrators would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Hixson staff for all of the efforts they poured into making our very first WIN Time a huge success! The amount of joy we saw on students’ faces represented what school should be. One student remarked, “I love coming to school and being able to do this [Strength & Fitness session]! I wish I could do this everyday!”

As we move forward with WIN this year, we are excited to see how this new intervention and enrichment system will benefit ALL students.

What’s one of the most challenging labs of the semester? A two day yeast bread pizza lab!
Mrs. Koop’s FACS class began with a yeast science experiment to learn and understand how it grows and its importance to food history. Yeast is unforgiving, and unfortunately, a few groups killed the yeast along the way. Thanks to our block schedule, students had enough time to diagnose what went wrong, successfully remake their yeast, and use it for their pizza dough. Today was baking day, and it was a total success! The students were so proud!
