Hoopn' for Hearts...in coordination with Saint Louis University and the American Heart Association presents:

"Best in the Region" 4 on 4 men's 40 & over basketball Tournament.

As always, Hoopn' for Hearts is for the early detection & subsequent control of hypertension..a quick & simple wellness check is required to participate.

Games played at Saint Louis University Simon Recreation Center, with Saint Louis University School of Medicine & the American Heart Association coordinating the wellness & educational components.

November 28, 2023....On behalf of our staff, the veterans and the community we serve, we'd like to thank Wes Shirley, Communications Director, our grant sponsor Maurice Hayden, and the employees of Spectrum, and their dedication to the Spectrum Employee Community Grants. On this day, Moving Upward was a grant recipient to help us continue our Community for Veterans housing intiative.

GIVE STL Day - officially May 10, 2023 (now accepting early donations)...What is Give STL Day?? Give STL Day brings the region together as one community, raising money and awareness for over one thousand local nonprofits in 13 St. Louis metropolitan and surrounding areas, including some Illinois counties. In addition to being a resource for donors across the St. Louis region, the initiative amplifies donations during an online giving day in May.

As founder of the nonprofit Moving Upward, a homeless veteran housing provider, I am extending gratitude for donations to our Community for Veterans housing initiative www.movingupward-stl.org/4300-farlin-avenue We use volunteers for two-thirds of the renovations (permit work is completed by professionals).

The current renovation project, at 4300 Farlin Ave., is 2-family flat, that will be home for two homeless veterans. With your help, our goal is completion of the housing units by September 1, 2023. Our intent is to enhance the quality of life for those in need, by providing accessible/affordable housing and supportive services with the purpose of achieving independent living.

May 1, 2023 - We are excited about finishing the renovation of two apartments for two homeless veterans by Fall of 2023. Although Covid has slowed us down, nothing can stop us from getting the project completed!!

To that end, we'd like to thank one of our project partners, Home Depot-Brentwood for establishing this Spring 2023 as the time to install and vinyl wrap the windows for the project, as well as hang the drywall!! We're at the finishing stage of the project and plan to complete the project by September 2023.

Stayed tuned for the volunteer call for the completion of the final stage...painting, landscaping, trim installation and cleanup.

March 25, 2021 - We are ecstatic as progress continues at 4300 Farlin. Roofing: The primary roofing has been completed. Rear addition demolition and garage roofing is all that remains. Shouts go to Debra Gee (project coordinator) for initializing and soon completing the roofing system installation!!

Feb. 25, 2021 - On behalf of the staff at Moving Upward, and all of our great volunteers, we'd like to thank Jenny DiGuardi, Regional Administrative Manager for Costco's Midwest Region for securing a donation for the Community for Veterans housing project. Thanx Jenny & Costco!!!

February 10, 2021 - More progress!!...65% of electrical repair completed. We were able to complete a previously attempted (pre-Moving Upward) meter box and electrical panel installation.
