We want to take the time to give a huge shoutout to Vista Community Church, who were an amazing group of high school students who gave an entire week of their summer to volunteer at Attack Poverty!

They served in several ways such as cleaning up the community garden, a prayer walk, cleaning up a local cemetery, doing food distribution, in our kid's summer program, and worked on the revitalization project in Northside!

If you are a church or organization and would like to serve as a group, please visit attackpoverty.org/volunteer and click "group volunteer opportunities!"

For the next 2 months, we are going to be highlighting some of our international work as we celebrate 10 years of empowerment! How we serve internationally, follows the same model we use domestically. We listen and hear the needs present, and show up to walk alongside and serve.

In Asia, this has looked like children’s educational summer camps or clean water projects in villages, but they all have one thing in common…these projects and programs start the process of creating sustainability in communities to break the generational cycle of poverty.

We have a goal of raising $5,000 over the next 3 weeks to support summer camps! To donate, please visit attackpoverty.org/international and be sure to write "AP Asia" in the comments!

Jesus stopped by the shop and wanted to volunteer to learn how to make furniture and grow his skills. He’s interested in learning architecture and is already in welding at school.

Stay tuned to see some of the #goodsthatdogood that Jesus will make.

We have seen so many new faces around here and as a nonprofit organization, and as we begin to celebrate our 10th year of empowerment, we want to take the time to reintroduce our organization and look back on who we are and what we do!

So.. why empowerment?

That 1 in 5 children in Greater Houston are living in poverty? According to Understanding Houston, children growing up in poverty are more likely to face toxic stress and conditions that leave permanent changes in their brains, with implications for learning, health, and behavior.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”” Matthew 6:31

Today our team took time to be together as we prepare for a week of rest. Rest is vital in the work we do as we serve the underserved every day.

Did you know...

That the Greater Houston area reached its highest population this year? The average household income in Houston is $84,000 with a poverty rate of 20.06%. That is almost a 2% increase from 2020.

According to Every Texan's data, there are currently 9.5% of children in extreme poverty in Harris County and 4.3% in Fort Bend County. Although these rates have slowly declined in recent years, they are estimated to spike during COVID-19.

Over the last 10 years, we have seen change and transformation in the communities that we get to serve but there is still so much more to do. We encourage you to join us in breaking the cycle of generational poverty!

Part of community development is building relationships and our brothers and sisters at TXCCDN explained why we should celebrate Juneteenth well,

Black, white or other…. Why wouldn’t you want to celebrate?

Romans 12:15 tells us that we, as Believers, are to not just mourn with those who mourn but also to rejoice with those who rejoice.

So if last year, you found yourself weeping over the murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, but this year find yourself taking an “us vs. them” position regarding the newest federal holiday, I’d urge you to reconsider. Anyone who claims to love the Jesus of the Bible should be able to identify with the feeling of freedom and the joy of acceptance. Especially since celebrating is exactly what Heaven did when your own chains were broken.

Friends of Uganda

We ask that you please continue to think and pray for our Friends of Uganda as they experience yet another lockdown of 42 days. This will cause a significant impact on our friends in Uganda, as they are on the heels of trying to recover from the pandemic, a lockdown for schools, markets, churches, and transportation.

We long for these days again to worship, work, and serve together.

If you would like to make a monetary donation towards our Ugandan friends, please visit and click donate now: https://bit.ly/3cJM7SE

Beautiful morning for a run with Great friends all for an AMAZING ORGANIZATION! Doing our part to #AttackPoverty
Did it! 😁
“Running 🏃🏾‍♀️ for a Cause”. This is our reason to run this morning. Attack poverty is changing the lives of so many globally and offering a hand up to those in need. The mission of Attack Poverty is to strengthen under-resourced communities through spiritual growth, education, revitalization and basic needs.
Is the link to sign up for the Attack Poverty 5K going to be opened up again? I've done all of the races so far and want to support you again.
These awesome ladies from The Sanctuary Fellowship Church (Whitney, Micah & Gloria) plus some of their littles, came in and gave of their time to pack up 235 hygiene kits that we will get out to our residents in our communities. We wanted to say a huge thank you for the love you have shown today!!
I would like to know if it would be possible for you to make it possible to make donations via PayPal to the organizations you support? TIA
