The dry electric shaver was invented by Colonel Jacob Schick.

Schick started designing and developing the dry electric shaver in 1910.

By 1927 the shaver was fully marketable. Soon after, Schick opened a factory in Stamford, CT. Norleco, also known as Philips, took over operations in 1981.

There is more than one Stamford in the United States.

Stamford was originally called Rippowam. The name was later changed to Stamford after a town in Lincolnshire England.

There are also Stamfords in the states of New York, Vermont, Texas and Nebraska. The Nebraska Stamford is named after Stamford, CT.

Schuyler Merritt was serving his eighth term as a congressman when the parkway opened.

The Merritt Parkway was built to relieve traffic on the Boston Post Road and provide jobs for men during the Great Depression.

Construction started on the Merritt in 1934 and the parkway was open for use in 1938 by Governor Wilbur Cross. Hence why the parkway is called the Wilbur Cross Parkway north of the Sikorsky Bridge. @ Merritt Parkway, Stamford

Jackie Robinson and his family lived in North Stamford.

While Jackie played for the Brooklyn Dodgers he built his dream home off Cascade Road. Jackie hosted several famous guests at his estate, one being Martin Luther King Jr.. He even had a baseball glove shaped pool installed on the property that still exists today.

The garden in Fort Stamford Park was started by Virginia Goodbody after she moved to Stamford in 1928. The family owned 300 acres on the border of Stamford and Greenwich.

A Colonial Revival mansion use to sit on the property between the garden and Westover Road until it burnt down in 1971.

Today, most of the property makes up the Mianus River Park. The portion that includes Mrs. Goodbody's garden, which was restored by the Stamford Garden Club, can be accessed through the Fort Stamford Park entrance on Westover Road.

In 2016, pipelines redirected water from Aquarion's Bridgeport System to the Stamford System, which includes The North Stamford Reservoir.
