Dear Thompson Family Members:

Hi, Everyone! We wanted to give you some updates for our Moses Thompson Family Reunion at Centre Furnace Mansion, on August 4th!

We will begin our luncheon on Saturday around 11 am and then participate in presentations and tours. Here is a tentative list of events:

1. Centre County Historical Society Program Coordinator Megan Orient will update us on the Mansion happenings and arrange for a tour of the Mansion.

2. Megan will also provide new information about Moses Thompson’s local land holdings during the 19th century.

3. Historian Robert Hazelton will discuss a recent excavation at the Penn State Arboretum; a building foundation dating back to the 1860s has been found, which they believe was owned by Moses Thompson.

4. Visit the Boogersburg School

5. Visit the John Thompson Granary in Lemont

5. On Aug. 3, Friday, we have a special tour opportunity. PSU history Professor Mike Bezilla, a local authority on the Land Grant frescoes and their renovation, has agreed to give us a quick tour of the Old Main building on Friday at 4 pm. We can coordinate driving and parking before the event.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone who can attend! There will be a fee for our luncheon, but I won’t know the price per person until we finalize preparations for food and supplies. Let us know if there is anything else we can do to make your visit comfortable.

For our family members unable to visit this year, we hope to see you in 2015! Please send us address updates of any members who are not on this list and might be interested.

Hi, Everyone, here is a tentative schedule of JIT's music gigs during our reunion weekend, from Thurs. Aug. 2 through Sunday Aug. 5. Guaranteed great times--hope you can make some:

"On Thursdays I play
6:30 - 9:00 at The Governors' Pub - a restaurant in Bellefonte. Very nice, good food, with a small selection of craft beer. Usually just me and my piano.

10:30 - 2:00 at The Phyrst in State College - an institutuion for Penn State students and alumni. The band is called Maxwell Strait, and we rock pretty hard, covering songs by the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan and other classic tunes.

Saturday I'm just hanging with you guys, although sometimes I get a call to play at a nearby piano bar.

Sunday I'll be playing at the Seven Mountains Winery from 2:00-5:00. Great place with really good wine; it's about 30 minutes south from State College."

We have ONE month until our reunion at Centre Furnace Mansion in State College, PA! We would love to have lots of family members attend this year, so please finalize your travel plans! Once again, the Centre County Historical Society is graciously offering their time, space, and efforts for our Thompson family reunion.

Please reply to this message or email [email protected] with your family count of attendees, so we can prepare for our lunch and activities. We are having a more casual lunch for this reunion, so our maintenance and costs will be easier to handle.
