The city backed off an enforcement deadline Wednesday that would require building owners to move to a new, “NYC Official” trash bin by June 1.

I couldn't believe this statistic when I read it in today's Wall Street Journal: nearly half of all home insurance claims at the nation's largest insurers now result in no payout.

Meanwhile, homeowners are paying more than ever in premiums.

In this video, I discuss what this means for New Yorkers, why so many homeowners feel like they're paying more and getting less, and why I've introduced Res 0395-2026 to limit excessive homeowners insurance rate increases and Res 0105-2026 to stop New Yorkers from subsidizing catastrophe losses in other states.

Take a look and let me know your experience with homeowners insurance. Have you ever filed a claim? Were you treated fairly?

According to today's Wall Street Journal, nearly half of home insurance claims at the nation's largest insurers now result in no payout. Meanwhile, homeowners continue to face rising premiums and higher deductibles.

That's exactly why I've introduced Res 0395-2026, which would prohibit homeowners insurance rate increases of more than 25% in a single year, and Res 0105-2026, which would stop New Yorkers from being forced to subsidize catastrophe losses occurring in other states.

New Yorkers pay some of the highest costs of living in the country. They shouldn't be asked to pay ever-higher insurance premiums only to find out their coverage isn't there when they need it most.

Homeowners deserve a fair deal.

Home insurers pitch policies as a financial peace-of-mind safety net, but in a disaster customers can find the apparent guarantee of compensation evaporates.

It was great to join thousands of families, community leaders, and friends at the Albanian Picnic at Wolfe's Pond Park to celebrate Albanian heritage, culture, and traditions.

In just a few short years, this event has grown into one of the largest Albanian cultural gatherings in the tri-state area, a testament to the strength, unity, and civic spirit of the Albanian-American community. As the grandson of Italian immigrants, I have a deep appreciation for the journey so many Albanian families have taken: working hard, building businesses, supporting charities, getting involved in civic life, and helping make Staten Island a better place for everyone.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who welcomed me so warmly. Staten Island is stronger because of communities like this, and I’m already looking forward to next year's picnic!

I was proud to join a bipartisan group of City Council colleagues in condemning the repeated vandalism of the Polish Consulate in Manhattan. Poland is one of America's closest allies, and New York's Polish-American community has contributed so much to our city. These attacks are unacceptable, and those responsible should be held accountable.

Red paint could be seen sprayed around one of the consulate's entrances in a photo.

Have you or someone you love struggled with infertility?

Have you taken on debt, drained your savings, worked extra hours, or delayed treatment because IVF was simply too expensive?

On **Monday, June 15 at 10:00 AM**, the New York City Council's Health Committee will hold a hearing at **City Hall** on my resolution urging Albany to create a refundable tax credit to help families recover the cost of IVF treatments not covered by insurance.

IVF can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and many families need multiple cycles before they are successful. For too many New Yorkers, the dream of becoming a parent comes down to whether they can afford it.

If this issue has affected you, I would encourage you to consider submitting testimony or speaking at the hearing. Personal stories are often more powerful than any statistic.

Whether you're a parent who benefited from IVF, someone currently going through treatment, a medical professional, or simply someone who believes family-building shouldn't be reserved for the wealthy, your voice can make a difference.

If you're interested in testifying, please contact my office and we'll help connect you with the hearing details.

📅 Monday, June 15
🕙 10:00 AM
📍 New York City Hall

Every family has a story. This is your opportunity to help shape policy and help other New Yorkers build theirs.

Nicole Gelinas is exactly right.

We would never allow anonymous cars, anonymous motorcycles, or anonymous trucks speeding through our city. Yet we continue to tolerate motorized e-bikes and scooters operating without meaningful accountability.

If a vehicle can travel at high speeds, injure someone, or take a life, there should be rules, enforcement, and a way to identify the operator.

That's not anti-bike. It's pro-public safety.

Why was this individual driving a dangerous device on a path meant for slower-moving cyclists? Lack of effective rules and enforcement.
