📢 Delinquent Tax Payment Notice 📢

Beginning September 1, all payments for delinquent property taxes must be made with certified funds, as required by Colorado tax lien sale law.

Certified funds include cash, a cashier’s check/ certified bank check, bank wire or a money order.

To verify that your property taxes have been paid, visit your online tax account or call the Routt County Treasurer’s Office.

Check Your Property Taxes Before Delinquent Tax Publication Begins
The Routt County Treasurer’s Office will begin publishing the annual list of delinquent property taxes in the newspaper in September. Once the publication process begins, additional advertising fees and costs will be added to delinquent accounts. Property owners are encouraged to verify that their property taxes have been paid and that no balance remains before those additional costs are incurred. You can quickly check your current tax status through the Treasurer’s Online Tax Account.

Starting Monday, August 10, renovations to the Historic Courthouse alley entrance will begin and are expected to last approximately three weeks.

During construction, please expect temporary parking restrictions and traffic detours within the Courthouse parking lot. Public and employee access will be directed to the Lincoln Avenue entrance or the West Vestibule (6th Street) entrance. Increased dust and noise are anticipated during the first week due to demolition activities.

Directional signage will be posted to assist visitors in locating County offices and departments. Thank you for your patience as we complete these improvements.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: Counterfeit & Prop Currency Alert

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office has received tips regarding counterfeit currency—specifically prop bills marked “For Motion Picture Purposes.”

Residents and local businesses are advised to inspect all cash currently in their possession and exercise vigilance when accepting cash payments.

How to Spot Prop Money:

Check the Text: Prop bills replace standard Treasury wording with disclaimers like “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY,” “THIS NOTE IS UNLEGAL TENDER,” or “IN PROP WE TRUST.”

Feel the Texture: Real U.S. currency is printed on a distinct cotton-linen blend with slightly raised ink. Prop money is printed on smooth or slick standard paper.

Inspect Security Features: Real bills ($5 and up) include watermarks visible in light, color-shifting ink, microprinting, and 3D security threads. Prop money lacks these features.

Examine the Details: Portraits on prop bills are often altered, and official Treasury signatures are replaced with fake names or prop company logos.

I still haven’t quite found the words to describe what this means to me, nothing feels adequate. To have an award established in my name and then be its first recipient is an honor I never expected. Wow!

Routt County Treasurer Lane Iacovetto (second from left) has been honored with a new statewide award bearing her name. It’s the Lane Iacovetto Colorado County Treasurer & Public Trustee Democracy Award. It was presented at the state’s annual conference of country treasurers and public trustees in Routt County this week. Iacovetto is the inaugural recipient of the award, which demonstrates exceptional leadership, integrity and service.

More from the press release -- The award was presented by fellow county treasurers and public trustees Irene Josey of Larimer County, Chuck Broerman of El Paso County and Carrie Couey of Garfield County on behalf of Iacovetto’s colleagues in CCTPTA.

According to the Association, the award was established to recognize public servants who demonstrate exemplary service to CCTPTA and the citizens of Colorado through servant leadership, dedication to the democratic process and an unwavering commitment to the public good.

In establishing the award in Iacovetto’s name, her colleagues recognized her work on behalf of county treasurers and public trustees throughout Colorado, including her leadership on complex legislative issues, mentorship of colleagues, willingness to share knowledge, ability to build consensus among differing viewpoints and commitment to strengthening the profession.

“Throughout her term, Lane Iacovetto has exemplified the highest ideals of public service,” the award description states. “She has consistently stepped forward to lead, mentor, collaborate, and advocate—not for personal recognition, but because she understood that the strength of our Association and our democracy depends upon those willing to do the hard work behind the scenes.”

Iacovetto said receiving the recognition from her peers made the honor particularly meaningful.

“I was completely surprised and incredibly humbled,” Iacovetto said. “To have my fellow County Treasurers and Public Trustees establish an award in my name is an honor I never could have imagined. These are people I respect tremendously, and we have worked side by side through legislation, difficult issues and the everyday challenges of serving our counties.

“I have always believed that public service is about doing the work, helping one another and leaving things a little better than we found them. Knowing this award will continue to recognize others who serve with those same values means more to me than I can put into words.”

The award is intended to represent a distinguished standard rather than an annual recognition and will only be presented when a nominee meets its criteria. Future recipients may be recognized for leadership within CCTPTA, service to fellow members, ethical conduct and transparency, legislative and committee work, mentorship, collaboration, consensus-building and lasting contributions to local government and the citizens of Colorado.
Recipients will receive a commemorative crystal award and recognition before the Association membership and will be included on a permanent list of recipients maintained by CCTPTA.
The award’s founding language states that establishing the recognition in Iacovetto’s name is intended to create “a lasting legacy that will inspire future generations of Treasurers and Public Trustees to answer the call to serve with honor.”

Iacovetto serves as the elected Routt County Treasurer and Public Trustee and is an active leader within the Colorado County Treasurer and Public Trustee Association. She will become President of CCTPTA in January 2027, when she is sworn in to lead the statewide association.

Established in June 2026, the Lane Iacovetto Colorado County Treasurer & Public Trustee Democracy Award recognizes a current or former Colorado County Treasurer or Public Trustee who demonstrates outstanding commitment to leadership, integrity, public service and the democratic process.

The award recognizes individuals whose work strengthens CCTPTA, the profession of county treasurers and public trustees, and the institutions of local government they are entrusted to serve.
