Fort Sam Houston Army Base
Home of Army medicine, Fort Sam Houston is where the , AMEDD NCO Academy, and other training courses take place.
Army doctors, nurses and many other careers start in southern Texas. Combat medics, who are first responders embedded in units, train here as well.
Combat medics are the second largest military occupational specialty in the Army. They administer emergency medical care at the point of injury in both combat and humanitarian situations. New recruits attend 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training, designed to turn civilians into Soldiers, at various locations.
Trainees then attend 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training at the MEDCoE.

Meet Retired Army Master Sergeant Tu Lam. : Modern Warfare introduced Ronin, a new playable character in the first-person shooter who is literally modeled after MSG Lam.
As a child, MSG Lam fled the communist government of Vietnam in 1979, escaping on an overloaded fishing boat before eventually making his way to the states, and later, into the U.S. Army, where he followed in the path of his step father, who served in Special Forces.
MSG Lam spent 18 of his 23 years in the Army in Special Forces, deploying to 27 countries — the majority of them war zones and conflict areas — before retiring in 2016 as a Master Sergeant and he is now the founder/CEO of .
