Loudoun County Public Schools

The Department of Instruction and Pupil Services has published a summer Continuity of Education resource for Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) families.

The website (https://tinyurl.com/y85b82yt) is intended to help students maintain the learning they achieved during the 2019-2020 school year so that they have a high level of readiness when school resumes for the 2020-2021 school year. All activities are voluntary and are designed to support parents in their efforts to keep students learning so their academic skills remain sharp.

The website includes:

• Information on digital tools that students have access to this summer;

• A link to our curriculum pages;

• Information on family-friendly websites;

• A link to social-emotional resources; and

• A section on Special Education.

Additional resources will be added to the website later in the summer.

JUNE 29 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING RECAP:

➡️ The longer resolution was passed for a choice of Hybrid Learning or 100 % Distance Learning, with amendments (to increase synchronous, but not asynchronous, learning over the amount offered in the spring, and to require ALL students to wear face coverings when six feet of physical distance cannot be maintained).

💻 Parents and Staff will choose hybrid or distance learning for the first semester through Parentvue from July 6-10.

➡️ Students will not start school until September 8th with teachers returning on August 19th, which should not impact the end date. Review the calendar attached to this post.

➡️ The Loudoun County High School Mascot will be changed. The LCHS Community will be engaged for further discussion.

➡️ HILLSBORO CHARTER: Discussion about their 100% in person option (12 classes with 12 students with 6' physical distancing) will be discussed at the next meeting on July 21.

➡️ MARK YOUR CALENDARS ... Loudoun County Public Schools will be holding a virtual town hall on 7/8/2020 from 5:30-7pm. (Details TBD).

Jasmine Carpenter, the new principal of Horizon Elementary School, knew as a teenager that she would devote her life to education.

“I made the decision to be an educator in high school because I knew I was called to this work. I was fortunate to have wonderful educators and administrators throughout my life that encouraged me to reach my potential and expand my goals. I understood the importance of this work more deeply after realizing the impact that educators had on my life. The pull to give back to my community led me here.”

A strong sense of mission runs through Carpenter’s life, especially when it comes to all voices in the school community being heard.

“I am always looking for opportunities to celebrate our diversity and advocate for the unheard voices. I am married to a professional firefighter paramedic. Our family is rooted in service. Together, we are teaching our two children that each and every person in this world has a story, and that story matters. Each of us bring different experiences, and our diversity makes us stronger.”

What a wonderful treat the staff of Horizon had today. Panera lunch plus treats. Thanks for braving the cold one and all to greet us and give us our treats. Miss seeing everyone, its been too long for since I went out on an injury in Nov. Hoping to see you all come August?🤔😍😁 Go Comets, stay safe and healthy.
Students love our chicken Souvlaki flatbread complete with our house made tzatziki and ABF chicken from Loudoun’s own Cuisine Solutions, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, low-fat milk and VIRGINIA GROWN watermelon!
