If your area experiences heavy snow, stay & avoid driving, if possible. Roads can become dangerous, but if you must drive – first, be sure you have created an emergency kit for your car.

Include items such as:
✔️ Jumper cables
✔️ Phone charger
✔️ Blankets
✔️ Water
✔️ A map

Once ready to drive, be sure to slow down, stay alert, and leave space between vehicles.

More great winter prep tips from our own Skamania County PUD #1

It's beautiful today, but winter weather will be here soon! ❄️
Skamania PUD cares about keeping the lights on in our community as well as helping our customers save energy. Here are 4 simple tips to keep in mind for our colder seasons ahead:
1. Inspect Furnace and Check for Drafts
Have your furnace inspected to prepare for colder temps. Check doors and windows for air leaks that can let warm air escape.
2. Check Your Insulation
Adding insulation can make a big impact to lowering your energy bills in the Fall and Winter.
3. Reverse Ceiling Fans
Reverse the rotation of your ceiling fan to clockwise to push warm air out and down, helping evenly distribute warm air throughout your home.
4. Open Blinds and Curtains
Open blinds and curtains during the day to naturally heat your home with sunlight.
Stay warm and save energy this winter! 🏠💡

Temps are expected to drop tonight, which means frozen pipes could be a risk. A little prep now can help you avoid costly repairs and major headaches later.

❄️ Prevent frozen pipes
• Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas like basements, crawl spaces and garages.
• Keep your home warm—set your thermostat to at least 55°F, even if you’re away.
• Let faucets drip slightly to keep water moving.
• Seal leaks and cracks to keep cold air from reaching pipes.
• Disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor water valves.
• Check where pipes enter your home—even small air leaks near pipes can cause freezing.

🚰 If your pipes freeze
• Keep the faucet open to help melt the ice.
• Use a hair dryer or space heater (never an open flame), starting at the faucet and working toward the frozen section.
• Know where your main water shut-off valve is in case a pipe bursts.
• If you can’t thaw the pipe or if it bursts, contact a licensed plumber right away.
