Washington County Commissioner Karla Bigham

Washington County Commissioner Karla Bigham Karla Bigham serves as the Washington County Commissioner for District 4. Karla Bigham was elected to the Washington County Board of Commissioners in 2022.

This is her second tenure on the board, she previously served on the Washington County Board of Commissioners from 2015-2018. Karla served 5 years in the Minnesota State Senate after being elected in February of 2018 in a Special Election and re-elected in 2020. Karla served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2007 until 2011. From 2005 until 2007, Karla served on the Cottage Grove City

Council. Prior to serving on the city council, she chaired the Cottage Grove Public Safety, Health, and Welfare Commission. Additionally, Karla was chair of the Cottage Grove Charter Commission and was a member of the Cottage Grove Environmental Commission. Karla is a member of the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. Karla obtained a Master of Public Affairs Degree from the University of Minnesota. She received her Bachelor's Degree as a paralegal, with minors in sociology and political science from Winona State University. She is a proud graduate of Park High School in Cottage Grove. Karla is a huge football fan and officiates high school football through the Minnesota State High School League. Karla likes to play golf, spend time in her garden, and play with her two rescue dogs. Karla and her husband, John, are residents of Cottage Grove.

At Tuesday’s board meeting, we received updated estimates of total population numbers from Met Council.

Washington County’ total population is 291,448.

The population, according to Met Council estimates, of the individual city divided by the total population of the countyπŸ‘‡πŸ»

Woodbury 82,490 = 28%
Cottage Grove 44,711 = 15%
Oakdale 30,047= 10%
Forest Lake 21,484 = 7%
Stillwater 19,530= 6%

Construction update for 80th Street and Keats Ave 🚧 πŸ‘‡πŸ»

80th St will be closed east of County Highway 19 (Keats Ave) in the City of Cottage Grove, MN - City Government beginning Friday, June 5, weather permitting. At that time, traffic approaching the intersection from the north, south, and west will be routed onto a temporary bypass road. This configuration is expected to run through early August.

On Tuesday, the Washington County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution declaring June 1 through August 15 as Summer at Your Library. Transportation Planner Andrea Rehm, ACIP, was also recognized with the 2026 WTS Minnesota Woman to Watch Award.
