Stillwater CARES A Nonproft Organization committed to alleviating poverty through community coordination. Stillwater C.A.R.E.S. does not provide direct services to beneficiaries.

As a nonprofit community benefit organization, we collaborate with those who are providing direct services that focus on the empowerment of those who are disadvantaged and the alleviation of poverty. This inculdes collaboration with all sectors of the community: agencies, organizations, churches, businesses, medical practitioners, civic and government leaders, law enforcement, and others.

Sometimes the hardest part of asking for help is simply not knowing where to begin.

Stillwater CARES works to strengthen the connections between local organizations so that individuals and families can more easily find the resources available within our community.

Whether someone needs help with food, housing, healthcare, transportation, mental health services, or another challenge, no one organization can meet every need—but a connected community can make sure fewer people fall through the cracks.

If you know someone who is struggling, encourage them to reach out. Help is available, and asking for it is a strong first step.

Earlier this week, community members stepped into someone else’s shoes.

OSU Extension and Stillwater CARES hosted a Poverty Simulation in which participants and volunteers are challenged to navigate one month in the life of a family experiencing poverty. This included difficult decisions about housing, transportation, employment, childcare, healthcare, and basic necessities. While the simulation only lasted an hour, the realities it represents are faced by many families every single day.

The conversations afterward reminded us why this work matters. Poverty isn’t simply about money…it’s about stress, impossible choices, limited resources, and the strength it takes to keep moving forward.

Thank you to every participant, volunteer, community partner, and organization who helped make this experience possible. Your willingness to learn, serve, and better understand the challenges faced by our neighbors is what strengthens our community.

Together, we’re building a more compassionate, informed, and connected Stillwater.
