Stratford Volunteer Fire Department

Stratford Fire was paged to a grass fire on Thursday 8-6-2026 around 5:30pm. The fire started off of highway 54 a few miles west of town. Texhoma Fire & Dalhart Fire were called to assist as this fire jumped the rail road tracks and was headed for houses out behind the cemetery. Stratford EMS, Sherman County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, & Stratford Police Department assisted with evacuations in the area. Sherman County Motor grader was also called to assist with containing this fire and getting it stopped. No structures were involved in this fire and we were able to stop and contain the fire approximately 100-150 yards away from nearby houses. Dalhart and Texhoma units were released from the scene and Stratford units remained on scene until approximately 10:30pm to finishing putting out all hot spots.

The past few days have been busy and wild for us.
At 4:16 am yesterday morning (7-28-26) Stratford Fire was paged to assist Dalhart Fire with a grass fire South of Conlen. On our way back to town we were called to another grass fire north of Stratford. This fire was hectic, we were called to this fire several times throughout the day and early morning due to it flaring back up on us. We then had another fire behind the liquor store in Stratford while dealing with the fire north of town at the same time. We were able to get the fire behind the liquor store out pretty quickly and the other fire units that were north of town came back to town. We got called back out to the fire North of town and didn’t return home until around 3:15ish in the morning (7-29-26)
This afternoon (7-29-26) around 3:40 we were called to assist with a grass fire in Kerrick. We returned to the station around 7pm.

We would to thank all the assisting fire departments with all of these fires. We had Dalhart, Boise City, Griggs, & Texhoma fire Departments help with these fires. Stratford EMS & Sherman County Sheriff’s Office were also there to assist us with these Fires.

At 2:35pm on 7-2-2026 Stratford fire was paged to a grass fire on County Road 7. Sherman county motor-graders, Aurora Dairy loaders & Sammy Griffin with a motor-grader assisted with containing this fire. Also on scene to assist was Cactus Fire, Sunray Fire, Dumas Fire, Stratford EMS and Sherman county sheriff’s office. Thank each and every one of yall for the help getting this fire under control and extinguished!
A total of 301.65 acres burned on this fire.
It’s getting dryer by the day out there so please watch what you are doing on any outdoor activities and be aware of your surroundings.
