CITIZEN BOLO, DISTRACTION THIEVES TARGETING MARTIN COUNTY
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn all citizens to be vigilant following a recent distraction burglary that occurred in The Soundings community of Hobe Sound.
These distraction burglars are professional con artists who pose as land survey workers, tree trimmers or any type of professional whose main goal is to get you outside of your home, or distract you to the point that you don’t see their accomplice entering your home to steal. These criminals are polite, well spoken and appear to be legitimate, often sighting that they need your assistance, approval or recommendation on something outside. We are urging everyone to be aware of this crime and use extreme caution when anyone comes to your door providing or soliciting a service that you did not call to initiate. Don’t be afraid to decline the visitor’s request and close the door. Call the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident immediately and do your best to describe what the individual might be driving.
The incident that occurred in Hobe Sound lasted only five minutes, but thousands of dollars in jewelry came up missing from the home. The suspect in that case was described as a white male in his early 30’s, about 5’10” tall, weighing 180 pounds. He had black hair and was wearing a uniform. This crime occurred on Saturday, April 6th at around 3pm. He was driving a white sedan. He told the victim he was with a construction company and was surveying the property line for her neighbor. The Soundings residents are encouraged to check their exterior security cameras to see if any such activity was captured on video.
