We Could Use Some Pentecost!

It feels like the world is fidgety right now. It's wearing on the strongest of us - this stay at home thing. The newness and fun has worn off with the virtual meetings, shopping, school, work, appointments and family gatherings. All these used to be escape or fun and now, we find them exhausting. Wh...

Where Do We Go From Here?

Most of us have settled down into a routine by now and have found ways to reach into our communities with some beautiful and creative efforts. But the looming question is how do we re-engage once stay at home is lifted and we are able to gather in new ways? The answer is that it depends on how we ...

Communities of Encouragement

You've probably noticed or felt that our parish communities are weary. When the stay at home orders came before Easter - we were so worried about helping people enter into the season well  that we learned to live-stream, ZOOM, video chat and every way we could think of to connect. But as we have ...

More Than Ready for the Easter Season

It may be hard for some of us to grasp that Holy Week came and went - with many of us trying to find live streams and prayers and resources to make some semblance of our usual practices. If you were like me - I logged in a bit late for some things, too early for others and found I was so tired by th...

Unexpected Hospitality

I just got off a video chat with my sister - in- law, Zohreh. She lives in Tehran, Iran. It has been very hard hit with the virus and life has shifted greatly. She is a realist, but also a woman of hope. She knows Jesus. Our conversation after catching up about family and such - turned toward faith....

Hospitality Where We Are1

If you are like me, you've been inundated with so many words this past week. They have mostly been helpful and good, but there have been way too many of them. Today I just want to say that we are praying for you. For health, for joy, for a way to reach into this strange time and lead in the way Go...

Here's a little recipe for grown-ups. Good on ice cream, a dip for plain potato chips, or all by itself. Happy Monday!
Spirited Chocolate Sauce
1 Cup unsweetened Cocoa Powder
2 Cups Sugar
1/4 tsp kosher or sea salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 c water
1/4 c whiskey, scotch or bourbon
Whisk the cocoa and sugar in a medium saucepan till smooth.
Add salt and water, bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat, stir one minute.
Remove from heat and leave till almost cool, add your liquor, stir till mixed. It will thicken as it cools.
Pour into a glass jar and refrigerate for up to two weeks.

We are pretty sure it might last a day actually! If you want to be hospitable, share with someone you are sheltering safely with!

It's been an incredible week - our lives have shifted to a new place and mostly on our mind is health, well-being and how to care for the most vulnerable in our communities. We encourage you to be a steady source of peace, hope and encouragement for those you love. The days are long so reach out how you can to be FOR others - even when the couch, a good book or the remote sound comfy. #joyofthegospel #radicalhospitality #5Kcouchtoprayer

It's been so lovely to see creativity, kindness, humor and leadership arise from the place we are all in these . days. The waiting, hoping and praying that is shaping our days is good too. It's like we have realized we are not in control of the world like we thought. We can't buy exemption from the virus nor can we run from it. Today - look for all the lovely ways people are caring for each other and how all our trusted places and people are leading us well. #faithhopeandlove

Offering Hospitality in New Ways

We know times are a bit uncertain today. We are worried. The news has even the most calm among us a bit unnerved. But we are still on mission as a church - so what can we do? How can we be? We have a few ideas for you to really reach out over the next couple of months and be bridge-builders in your...

Hospitality - what we are...what we do

We love hospitality. Not the fancy kind, but the kind that is genuine, generous and joyful. We believe that this gift has the potential to change our parishes into places where people find space, welcome and acceptance. It takes everyone to make a parish a place of welcome and we love to host training and workshops, offer consultations and resources to make that happen. It doesn’t come naturally to us actually, but everyone can learn and make your church community a place where people want to be.

We do love beauty - and that is what touches hearts.
