CCL LI co-founder Ashley Hunt-Martorano was quoted in Newsday today about climate change and :

“The technology currently exists for us to be fossil-free. It’s just the political will, our elected officials need to make that choice for us to switch to alternatives,” Hunt-Martorano said. “We’re in the middle of another energy transformation.”

She said the number one thing people can do is to push to change the law.

“We’re not going to solve climate change through individual action,” Hunt-Martorano said. She urges people to contact their elected officials to push for more climate-friendly laws.

"The president and Congress are considering a price on carbon in the reconciliation package. This is good news for three reasons ["Latest hurricane is a second wake-up call," Letters, Sept. 14].

"1. Many countries we trade with are already putting a price on (e.g., taxing) carbon pollution and setting up border carbon adjustments. To remain competitive, the United States must do the same.

"2. A fee on carbon, with revenues returned to households in the form of monthly dividends, will reduce our emissions, stimulate the economy and create jobs in green energy. It’s good for our nation.

"3. Global climate cooperation is essential if we are to keep global average temperatures below the threshold for maintaining life. John Kerry, special presidential envoy for climate, needs ammunition for November's UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, to show that the United States is serious about climate, as he works to get other nations to agree on bold action. Having a price on carbon will be the evidence of U.S. resolve.

CCL Long Island is in the news! A few weeks ago volunteer Charlie Avalos and CCL marketing manager Ashley Hunt-Martorano were interviewed by Inside Edition about the impacts of on Long Island.

“'I really wanted to make a difference, and try to get the message out that there is a problem with climate change, and really it goes back to [Superstorm] Sandy, back in 2012. That was devastating,' Charlie Avalos, a Long Island volunteer for Citizens Climate Lobby, an organization who raises awareness of climate change, told Inside Edition Digital.

"For all of the hard work being done by those at the Citizens Climate Lobby and other organizations across Long Island and the country to raise awareness of climate change, Hunt-Martorano says the most important thing anyone can do takes all of two minutes.

“'What really matters is whether my neighbor calls their member of Congress about climate change,' she said. 'That's the individual action that matters and that we're lacking.'

"She said that is what her organization facilities and helps is train volunteers how to speak to elected officials about this serious issue."
