Last night I sent three of my deputies to Greenville to cover shifts so the officers with the Greenville Police Department and Hunt County Sheriff’s Office could take a moment to grieve and prepare for today’s funeral for Greenville Police Office Cooper Dawson.

Today, a deputy and investigator will be there to ensure full coverage during the service.

To my brothers and sisters in blue: we’ve GOT your SIX. You’ve supported us in times of need, and now it’s our turn to stand beside you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Press Release:
Recent Car Burglaries:

I need all residents to be vigilant about locking their vehicles. Please take any weapons and all valuable items out of the vehicles. The same group that burglarized our county and surrounding counties are sending more crews through burglarizing vehicles again. More than 12 counties south of us have been victims of this as well.

They have hit our county once but we expect them to come back. They were south of Hopkins County in Wood County, Rains County and Nacogdoches County on Wednesday night October 23rd until early morning on Thursday 24th.

Some of the fi****ms stolen from the first crew’s burglaries have already been located as they were attempting to smuggle them back into Mexico. They are considered armed and dangerous. Please do not attempt to confront these suspects, as they have used deadly force in recent burglaries.

I’m sorry we have to deal with this situation, but until our border is secure, these are the true facts of what is to come with open borders. We are going to have to take care of our county, we cannot rely on the Federal Government to protect us.

We received information the suspects are currently driving a dark colored Ford ¾ ton truck. They are known to change vehicles at any time. All residents should check their license plates as they have been swapping those. We will be out in force to help prevent any burglaries in our area. If you see anything suspicious, please, do not hesitate to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

🚨Important Message from Sheriff Lewis Tatum🚨

Let me be very clear: ANY threats made against a school, whether in person or on social media, will be taken seriously, and the person responsible will be arrested immediately and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

This is not a joke or something to take lightly. The safety of our children, educators, and community is our top priority, and we will not tolerate any threats that put that at risk.

Parents, please take a moment to talk to your kids about the serious consequences of making threats. What may seem like a prank or a careless statement can result in life-changing consequences.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, Sulphur Springs ISD Police Department and Sulphur Springs Police Department are committed to keeping our schools safe, and we ask for your partnership in this effort to protect our children and ensure a secure environment for everyone.
