Scam Alert!!

The Town of Summerdale is deeply saddened to confirm a fatal traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 59 and county Road 32 on Sunday evening, June 29, 2025.

Due to the severity of the incident, this investigation was turned over to the ALEA Highway Patrol, who handles Traffic Homicide Investigations. ALEA is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Our thoughts are with the victim's family and their loved ones during this challenging time. I am sure upon the completion of their investigation, ALEA will provide additional updates as they become available. However, a preliminary cause of this crash appears to be driver inattention.

In response to this incident, and as part of our ongoing commitment to public safety, the town is taking steps to ensure the well-being of our residents. These steps include:

(1). Increasing police presence and enforcement at the intersection for motorists failing to stop for the red light.
(2). Requesting the State Highway Department to conduct a safety assessment of the intersection, to see if any additional warning safety devices could be installed.

Some of the steps listed above are to ensure the safety of our residents, which is our highest priority. My agency will do everything we can to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. The Summerdale Police Department will work diligently to enhance safety measures and are always open to suggestions from the community.

In addition, the Baldwin County Highway Department is working on a design to upgrade the intersection of CR 32 and Highway 59. The Town of Summerdale will advise the community once the start date of construction is determined.

Sincerely,

Chief Michael Gaull

FYI,
This is a reminder that this is the season where driveway/ blacktop paving scammers may stop at your residence. Usually, the business line they will say to the homeowners is that they are doing blacktop work in the area and they have extra blacktop left over, so they advise the homeowner they are giving them a discount. The result is usually a poor product of work and they request more money than they quoted. Before agreeing to any work, conduct research to see if the company has a license to do business in town and check their business name through the Better Business Bureau. Feel free to contact the police department if any paving companies stop at your residence and you have any concerns. Thank you.
