Starting tomorrow and on multiple upcoming days in June and July, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office will be doing some active shooter training at St. John’s Beloved Catholic Church on Sumter Ave. Please take the time to read their News Release.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting active shooter / active assailant training exercises at Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church, located at 28 Sumter Avenue in downtown Summerville, on multiple dates throughout June and July.

The training is designed to enhance deputies’ preparedness and response capabilities during critical incidents involving active threats.

These realistic training scenarios provide valuable hands-on experience and help ensure law enforcement personnel are equipped to respond effectively to emergencies within our community.

Residents and citizens in the area should be aware that during the training exercises they may hear simulated gunfire (blank rounds), loud verbal commands, and other sounds associated with law enforcement response scenarios.

Additionally, members of the public may observe deputies carrying training weapons, moving rapidly between structures, or conducting tactical operations on church grounds.

To help avoid confusion and notify the public, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Training Unit will place signage around the church property indicating that law enforcement training is underway.

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we pause to honor and celebrate the brave men and women of the Summerville Fire Department.

We are incredibly fortunate to have some of the highest trained and most dedicated firefighters in the region—always ready to serve, protect, and support not only our community, but surrounding areas when they’re needed as well. Their commitment, courage, and professionalism do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for all they do each and every day.

And since it’s May 4th… I’ll say it—May the 4th be with you as you continue protecting our town.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

From my family to yours, Happy Easter!

We’ve got a big weekend ahead here in Summerville!

The Summerville Family YMCA Flowertown Festival is happening Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—with a kickoff party starting tonight. It’s one of the most anticipated weekends of the year and a great time to enjoy all that our community has to offer.

We’ll also have the Summerville DREAM Spring Market (pre-Farmer’s Market) on Saturday, along with so much more happening around town.

As you’re out enjoying the Festival and Spring Market, I encourage you to take a little extra time to visit our local shops and restaurants. Our small businesses are a big part of what makes Summerville special, and your support means a great deal.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out and about this weekend!

It’s a beautiful spring day here in Summerville, and there’s no better way to celebrate than the tradition of Opening Day at Parks Field Little League.

There’s something special about this time of year. Spring has officially sprung, the fields are full, and our community comes together to cheer on our young athletes. Moments like these are what make Summerville such a great place to call home.

And the excitement doesn’t stop here. The YMCA’s Azalea Festival is right around the corner next weekend!

Wishing all of our players, coaches, and families a fantastic season ahead. Play ball! ⚾

I have a positive update on the Main Street resurfacing project by the SCDOT.

I know this project has taken much longer than we all hoped or wanted it to. I’ve been in touch with the contractor, and—pending continued good weather—they plan to resume work starting Sunday night. They were able to begin last week but had to pause again due to the cooler temperatures.

We are getting closer to the completion of this SCDOT project, and, I know you like I, am looking forward to seeing it finished soon.

Summerville CPW announced that the boil water advisory will remain in effect until tomorrow evening after repairs are made tonight out of an abundance of caution. No contamination has been detected, but please continue to take precautions to keep you and your family safe and listen to Chris and my conversation about today’s event and how to ensure you get important information from the Town and different agencies when events happen.
