SEWE in Dorchester County? YES!

I am VERY excited to see this event come to fruition. A year or so ago I talked with a few SEWE board members about doing a fall event for SEWE at Ashley River Park. They met me and our parks director Austin Zuniga and programming director Pam Zanowski on site and we walked the park and were stoked at the possibilities. Fast forward to now and our incredible Dorchester County parks staff and SEWE staff have made some magic happen and I can’t wait to see what our first Dorchester County Southeastern Wildlife Exposition event looks like. Hope to see you there!! 🦅 🐕 🎣 🚶‍♂️

Another great day in Dorchester County. We are So thankful for all of the hard work by so many folks to help open Dorchester County Fire Rescue station 22. Everyone at Dorchester County Government have worked very hard the last 15 years to create one of the finest county fire departments in South Carolina and this new station that will serve the Summers Corner area will help continue that mission. If you need documentation for your insurance company to work on reducing your homeowners premiums because you are currently in a 10 ISO and want to see if you are in the area that qualifies at ISO 4, call this number and DCFR staff should be able to get you what you need. Joe is doing a great job for us in Charleston County.

It has been an honor to represent District 8 on Charleston County Council. We’ve made real progress, but there's more work ahead.

I’m running for reelection to continue working for better roads, protecting the places that make our community special, and managing growth responsibly.

Over the next several weeks, I’ll be sharing more about what we’ve accomplished, and where we go from here.

ClayField Drive and SC 165 Traffic Light Update

Earlier this week, I met with county transportation staff to get an update on this project and a few others. Design plans have been submitted to the SCDOT and we should have approval back shortly. Equipment has been ordered for the installation. Staff has talked with With Dominion energy and thankfully there are no utilities that need to be relocated that would cause any further delays. The expected timeline for installation is by the end of this year. SCDOT has final say so for installation of all traffic lights and unfortunately, they sometimes don’t move as fast as we would like. Representative Brewer has been extremely helpful in cutting the red tape where they’re concerned. We Will keep working hard to get this light up, but in the meantime, we are going to see much more presence of the sheriffs office for some speed mitigation to slow people down and keep people safe.

You will be missed Chastity. Thank you for all you did for our community. May God bless your family and friends with His peace and grace during this time of grief.

It is with heavy hearts that Dorchester County Fire Rescue announces the passing of Ret. Battalion Chief Chastity Bigney after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Chastity was a valued member of our DCFR family, and her loss is deeply felt throughout our department. We are grateful for her service, her leadership, and the difference she made in the lives of those who served alongside her. We will always remember her with respect and affection.

Please keep Chastity’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Berkeley County friends let’s help keep Amy working to make our community better.

When Amy Stern ran for County Council, she made District 5 three promises. Here's where they stand.

Nexton Parkway? Funded. Two years ahead of schedule, pulling the whole widening forward.

Growth paying its own way? One developer is now covering $10 million for our roads, plus donated land for a school and for emergency services.

The animal shelter? Amy brought in the Charleston Animal Society to run it, and led the fight for a new adoption center.

Amy isn't a politician. She's a small business owner and a former Berkeley County deputy who still answers her own phone.

Promises made. Promises kept.

Anita has done a great job down in Charleston.

Great strides have been made for Charleston County schools in the last few years, says superintendent Anita Huggins. The trick is maintaining that momentum for students and educators. (Full story below.)
