What Does It Mean to Be a S/PA Student?

It means more than receiving a scholarship.

It means having the opportunity to attend a private college-preparatory high school and build a foundation for the future.

It means having a Mentor in your corner for four years, someone who listens, encourages, and reminds you that your goals are worth pursuing.

It means becoming part of a community that believes in your potential and wants to see you succeed.

This fall, we're welcoming the newest members of the S/PA community: the Class of 2030.

They're beginning a four-year journey filled with new classrooms, new experiences, new challenges, and new opportunities.

And they won't be making that journey alone.

Behind every S/PA student is a community of people investing in their future.

Our Story: How S/PA Began

Student/Partner Alliance began with one person believing that access to a strong, college-preparatory education could open doors for students.

In the late 1980s, Tom Cash provided tuition assistance to 10 students in Jersey City to attend St. Mary’s High School. He recognized that students attending quality college-preparatory schools in their own communities were better prepared for college admission and scholarships.

As friends and business partners learned about Tom’s efforts, they wanted to help too, adding both tuition support and mentoring to the vision.

Student/Partner Alliance was formally incorporated in 1993. Since then, S/PA has provided scholarship and mentoring support to more than 2,500 students from low-income communities.

What began with 10 students grew into a community with a simple, powerful belief: when you open the door to opportunity, you can help change the course of a young person’s future.

Back-to-school season is happening!

The halls will soon be filled with the excitement of a new school year as our five S/PA partner schools prepare to welcome students back: St. Benedict’s Prep, St. Vincent Academy, St. Dominic Academy, Hudson Catholic, and Roselle Catholic.

To all of our S/PA students, we’re wishing you calm hearts, focused minds, and a readiness to begin your next year of learning and growing. We hope you start the year knowing that an entire community is cheering you on.

As we begin the new school year, there are three ways you can support a S/PA student:

Become a Mentor: Build a four-year relationship with a student through guidance and encouragement.

Become a Partner: Provide $3,500 per year toward a student’s tuition and mentor them throughout high school.

Become a Sponsor: Provide $3,500 per year toward a student’s four-year scholarship, without a mentoring commitment.

Bonus: A general donation, whether one-time or ongoing, is another meaningful way to support S/PA students.

Can't commit to Mentoring? Please share with somone who would be interested, OR become a Partner or Sponsor instead.

A Partner commits $3,500 per year for four years and also mentors their student. A Sponsor commits the same; no mentoring or ongoing contact required. 100% of contributions go toward tuition.
