⚠️Second hand or used car seats are a potential danger to your little ones.

📆Every car seat expires – each one has a different life expectancy and the manufacture sets that based on the materials they use to make it with.

💥Car seats are not good after a crash, even a minor one and likely won’t show glaring signs its been in a crash.

🧼Cleaning can damage important safety measures – Certain chemicals will remove life from the plastic shell of the seat causing it to be brittle and snap in a crash. The required flame retardant can be washed away if the wrong soap is used to wash the cover. The seat can be put back together improperly after a cleaning that can lead to catastrophic failures. And the harness straps may have been put through a washing machine degrading the integrity of how they function. All of these things can render a car seat unsafe and you would never be able to see most of it.

❓When is it safe to use a car seat that isn’t new from the store?

🟰You received the seat from a close family member or friend that you would leave your little one alone with. The entire history of the seat should be known including if it was cleaned and how, or if it was in a crash.

🆓Skip the “Free” car seat on the side of the road and bypass the used seats at the garage sales. Invest in a new seat even if it doesn’t have all the fancy bells and whistles as the one you saw at the garage sale. New is Safe!

✅If you are unable to provide a seat for your child you may be able to obtain a seat through our partner SafeKids South Central Wisconsin. Please contact them for more information https://www.safekidswi.org/Coalitions-/Safe-Kids-Madison-Area

🍪Our Crews were the recipients of a very generous gift of Girl Scout Cookies.

🚒The girls stopped by to give firefighters and paramedics thank you notes and boxes of cookies. They got to see the fire trucks and watch our firefighters take on a friendly competition of who can put on their equipment the fastest!

🏁How fast do firefighters put on there gear? Well this race was completed in 1 minute 27 seconds!

🚨Crews were alerted by a resident that we had a Ducklings In Distress Incident going on right outside our station.

🥪Lunch was abandoned and Operation Duckling Rescue commenced.

🦆Momma Duck and 1 smart duckling were moved to safety while crews rescued the dozen other ducklings in the sewer grate and carried them to safety where Momma Duck was waiting.

One reality of working on an ambulance is that we rarely learn how our patients are doing after we drop them off at the emergency room. We work hard to help people, but we are often left wondering about their outcomes once we hand them off to hospital providers. Our care for people does not stop when our shift ends.

A few days ago, a former patient and her husband stopped by the station to give us a very special update. This patient had suffered a severe medical event that required intensive, specialized care from our paramedics, firefighters, and partners at the Dane County Sheriff’s Department.

From the skilled communication professionals at the Dane County 911 Center to the responders on the scene, a whole team worked in concert to help her. Everything fell into place exactly as it should. The system worked perfectly in her time of need.

The extensive planning, training, practice, and continuous system improvements ultimately led to a glorious outcome. The patient, her husband, and one of our responding paramedics were able to meet back at the station and share a hug.

Thank you to everyone who made this beautiful moment possible. We are grateful to our hospital partners in the UW-Health system for their excellent care, thank you to our crew, and thank you to the patient for fighting so hard. Teamwork made this reunion possible.

Its City Wide Garage Sale Time!

‼️Please be extra cautious as you drive through the City today and this weekend. We will have an abundance of vehicles parked along the curbs making it hard to predict when and where pedestrians will emerge.

🐌Slow down and be prepared for the extra 🚗vehicle and 👣foot traffic.
