As students and staff are 1/2 way through the first full week of school, we’re reintroducing you to the familiar faces of our School Resource Officers.

Our SROs are more than just a uniform in the hallway, they’re here to build relationships, answer questions, support our school community, and be someone students know they can turn to.

Do you have a child between the ages of 3 and 5? Big Walnut Local Schools offers free Child Check developmental screenings for families who live within the district.

The first screening of the school year is next Friday, September 4. Call 740.965.7862 to schedule an appointment.

The first days of school sounded a little something like this. Good mornings, high fives, hugs, and plenty of smiles filled our buildings as students returned for the 2026–27 school year.

First day of school. First football game of the season. First win of the season!

WSYX ABC 6 Friday Night Rivals broadcast our Golden Eagles live tonight, and they did not disappoint. Big Walnut defeated Hilliard Bradley 32-7 in front of a packed home crowd!

What a way to start the year! 🦅🏈

That’s a wrap on staggered starts!

Today, the rest of our students returned for their first day of the 2026-27 school year. Here is a look at the morning arrivals at Prairie Run Elementary, Big Walnut Intermediate School and Big Walnut Middle School.

And to our friends at General Rosecrans and Hylen Souders, we promise we haven’t forgotten about you! Your turn is coming. We’ll see everyone together on Monday, but first, we’ll see you at the game tonight.

The first day of staggered starts is in the books! About half of our students returned today for their first day of the 2026-27 school year, with the other half getting their turn tomorrow.

A little rain could not dampen the first-day energy at Big Walnut High School, Big Walnut Elementary, and the Early Learning Center. And yes, we are sure all those cell phones disappeared as soon as the first bell rang. 😉 Welcome back, Eagles!

’Twas the night before school, and throughout Big Walnut,
The backpacks were packed and the lunchboxes shut.
The classrooms were ready, each name tag in place,
While teachers looked forward to each smiling face.

The outfits were chosen, the alarms were all set,
And parents were asking, “Is it bedtime yet?”
Some Eagles feel nervous, while some cannot wait,
But new friends and adventures are just past the gate.

So rest up tonight for the big day ahead.
Brush all of your teeth and then hop into bed.
A wonderful school year is ready to start.
We’ll Inspire and Guide you with all of our heart.

Big Walnut officially opened the 2026–27 school year with our Opening Convocation! The morning began with breakfast prepared by our Food Services team and served with help from district administrators and Board of Education members. Board President Steve Fujii shared remarks, while Superintendent Ryan McLane reflected on the many “eras” of Big Walnut.

We also celebrated Vicky Tyler as Big Walnut’s newest Exceptional Eagle, our districtwide recognition for an outstanding staff member. Congratulations, Miss Vicky! Thank you to our entire Big Walnut team for continuing to inspire and guide our students.

Eagles’ First Flight took off this morning! 🦅

Our freshmen and transfer students took their first steps through Big Walnut High School as Eagles. With upperclassmen leading the way, students toured the building, found some of their classrooms, met a few teachers, and started getting comfortable in their new school.

They even learned a few student-section cheers ahead of the Eagles’ first football game of the season this Friday night!

Staggered start days are Thursday and Friday, and we look forward to having all students across the district together on Monday. The 2026–27 school year is almost here!
