We believe that a better world is possible, and that people should have a say in the matters that affect their lives. And there is a deeper strategic reason for this. Repression works by isolation. The government selects a person or group, portrays them as dangerous or beyond the bounds of legitimate politics, and counts on everyone else deciding that defending them is too risky, too controversial, or simply not their fight. Once we accept that logic, the circle of people who can be safely abandoned can expand very quickly. A movement capable of resisting repression has to operate according to the opposite principle: an attack intended to isolate one part of the movement should produce greater solidarity across the rest of it.

ACTIVE LEAK ON LINE 5 JUST EAST OF BAD RIVER RESERVATION! As of 8/25/26 Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline is leaking Natural Gas Liquids (NGL), a product occasionally also transported by the aging oil pipeline. A semi-truck triggered the leak, which is within two miles of the eastern end of the re-route project currently under construction around the perimeter of the Bad River Reservation. This site is on Sitan Road in Saxon, and is within five miles of Lake Superior. Time to SHUT DOWN LINE 5!

The Northwoods Socialist Collective is based in Duluth and Superior, but for some time we have had several comrades on the Iron Range. This past weekend we had our first public event on the Range, which was well attended. Afterwards we had an impromptu planning discussion, and it was decided to start holding regular public meetings in Virginia MN. They will be starting up this Fall. Let us know if you live or work on the Range and would like to be notified when and where our meetings are!
