April 2003, Board of Directors whose members include community residents, and representatives of local businesses and community-based organizations launched a nonprofit youth and family organization named United Communities’ Assistance Network (UCAN!). UCAN Vision Statement: The vision of UCAN is to ensure that every child and family is enriched with a fresh start or helping hand in education, health, fairness, safety, morality, spirituality, and a better well being with the support of nurturing professionals and communities. UCAN Mission Statement: The UCAN organization seeks to strengthen the community, by working within communities, tradition of self-help as well as rebuild the bonds between generations. UCAN Goals Statement: UCAN will provide communities with avenues for growth opportunities for success, a voice for justice and a hand to hold. UCAN will identify, train, nurture, link, mobilize and provide resources; as well as opportunities on behalf of children, families, and communities.
