Next week, you won't want to miss our Wicked movie double feature! Over two days, Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21, we will be showing Wicked, part 1 and Wicked: For Good, part 2 starting at 1:00pm on each day. There will be plenty of popcorn available while you enjoy these amazing musical movies!

Next Tuesday, August 18 at 4:00pm, stop by for the Teen Advisory Group! There will be games and crafts and we will have our 3Doodler art pens out as well so you can learn how to create cool, 3D art with them!

Thank you so much to REPCO Wildlife Encounters for bringing the reptiles and the fun earlier this week! We got to see snakes, lizards, and even a turtle vs. tortoise race while learning some really cool facts about reptiles! Our summer reading program is coming to an end soon so make sure to stop by and celebrate with our big end of summer party next week.

OCPL SPOTTED: This past Saturday, Maria (Central Library), Sara Jo (Mundy Branch), and Jessica (OCPL) attended the InterFaith Works Building Bridges Community Festival at the Syracuse Inner Harbor. It was a beautiful day for button-making & card sign-ups. Looking forward to next year's event already!

If you missed Repco at Mundy Branch Library last week, you can head to Central Library on Tuesday, August 11th at 2:00PM in the Community Room. In the meantime, take a look at one of the many live reptiles you can get up, close and personal with...like the patrons at Mundy did.😀

This morning the folks from Aurora of CNY, Inc came to the Lafayette Public Library began a wonderful program called the Bedtime Books Series.

It’s a story time with a sign language element. Today, the kids heard and watched The Very Hungry Caterpillar. After the story time, the Aurora group taught the kids how to sign specific words from the story and then the letters of the alphabet.

The series will continue at 4 more libraries through the fall.

Tonight, Solvay Public Library held its 4th annual free Comic Con. Kids got the experience what a convention is all about, without the huge cost.

Solvay brought in RetroGameCon, Funky Town Comics and had the kids cosplay to their heart’s content. They brought in some industry artists and had a Pokemon room.

“Spiderman” Rowlands showed up to restore order, but fun was had by everyone.

The Check It Out podcast on WCNY Community FM was back this past Saturday and our guest was the Executive Director of Aurora of CNY, Inc.

Kate Weidman was in to talk about a new program at 5 suburban libraries from now until the fall. It is called the Bedtime Book Series where story times are infused with a Sign Language element. Kids can watch the ASL presenter and after the story time, learn some sign language themselves.

The first story time is Tuesday, August 4th at the Lafayette Public Library at 10:30AM. Future programs from now until October.

For this week on the library podcast for kids, "Check It Out", the OCPL introduces our young patrons to a brand-new program at specific libraries. On Saturday, Central Library welcomed quite the celebrity: Gobi the Dog. She stopped by the KidSpace & Community Room for a story time and book talk with owners, Dion & Lucja Leonard. Both events were packed! Thank you Friends of the Central Library for arranging this free event for everyone! So much fun! 🐾

Join us next week on Tuesday, August 4th at 2:00pm to check out the amazing Rock and Fossil Lab with the MOST! You will get hands-on with rocks and fossils from the MOST collection, explore our geologic past, and complete the session with a special fossil-themed craft.

Solvay Director Brian Rowlands and Tom Walters from OCPL were on Bridge Street today. Brian was promoting the 4th annual FREE Comic Con for kids at the Solvay Library. The Con is on this coming Monday evening (August 3rd) at 6pm. Comics, video games and cosplay.... what more could a kid need?

Tom was letting people know about a new program that some of the suburban libraries will be doing with Aurora of CNY, Inc called Bedtime Book Series. This is a story time with an ASL (American Sign Language) element. The first Bedtime Book will be Tuesday, August 4th at 10:30AM in the Lafayette Public Library.

Onondaga County Public Libraries offers various summer programs for all ages, including an upcoming free comic convention at the Solvay Library on August 3.

SATURDAY, AUG 1 @ Central Library: Come meet author Dion Leonard & his dog, Gobi! Dion will read his children's book at 10 a.m. in the 2nd floor Laptop Lab & have a book talk for all ages at 2 p.m. in the 1st floor Community Room.. Everyone who attends will collect the limited edition Gobi trading card! This event is FREE for all, thanks to the Friends of the Central Library.

Local henna artist, Mariam Mohamed, will be joining us at Beauchamp on Tuesday, July 28 at 4:00pm! Make sure to stop by and check this out because it will be an amazing chance to learn about henna and to learn how to create a henna design on yourself!
