As a warming climate delivers more rain, overwhelming sewers and polluting waterways, one city is trying a green solution

It's great to open the Washington Post and Health and Science section this morning and see an excellent story about Philadelphia and many leaders that we at the Institute for Conservation Leadership have the honor to work alongside. The article features the efforts to shift to green solutions to storm water and climate change impacts.

My favorite line from the article --
"For those involved in such efforts, Philadelphia has literally been unpaving the way."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-solutions/2020/04/09/philadelphia-sewage-climate-change/?arc404=true&fbclid=IwAR3AAYBipaGNIXdDngPRJ9ikr2YjP3PvPxUtNNSgRiGucS5vX_Qur_igQV8

Science, climate change awareness and good work -- may it continue to expand and be understood!
Happy almost Earth Day!

More frequent flooding is overwhelming city drainage systems, sending raw sewage into rivers and streams. But Philadelphia is trying an innovative fix — capturing rainwater before flows into city drains.

Their journey to ensure the survival of their state insect by planting 150,000,000 stems of milkweed by 2038 has inspired us as they seek to conserve and create habitat that our monarch butterflies desperately need to survive.

Your gift to ICL supports leaders in conservation like the Illinois Monarch Project.

There is still time to help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 before the year is out – we need just $2,210! If you give today, it will be matched by a set of generous donors who pledged early.

Any gift of $25, $50, or $100 before the year is out will help us provide our services to leaders, organizations, and coalitions doing the hard, crucial work of fighting for cleaner water, breathable air, and thriving ecosystems for all.

The need is great and the time is now. Your gift to ICL is an investment in our environment and our democracy. Help us reach our match here: http://www.icl.org/donate

At a recent training for environment and conservation leaders working in networks and coalitions, we asked the participants to draw a picture of why they collaborate. What is the vision that keeps them going and fuels their commitment to a healthy planet?

As you can see, the aspirations that motivate them are equally impressive and beautiful. Clean water. Fresh, local food. Responsive and engaged policymakers. Even happy bees!

Your donation can make their vision come true (and it will be matched dollar for dollar, too, by a set of generous ICL donors).

To create positive solutions, we need each other. Please donate today and DOUBLE your impact: www.icl.org/donate
