In Talkeetna, Ak🛑
As a community, our concern continues to grow. There are now several of us speaking out—not to spread gossip or choose sides, but to raise awareness about elder abuse, exploitation, isolation, and the vulnerability of older adults in small communities.
We need to educate ourselves, look out for our elderly neighbors and friends, and pay attention when someone who is aging, isolated, dependent on others, or simply trusting may be vulnerable to exploitation.
For some of us, this issue has become very real through acquaintances in Talkeetna, Alaska. Some people know them personally as this has been their homestead for almost 25 years, while others have become familiar with their situation through the ongoing public litigation and events surrounding it over the past several years, still in litigation! ✔️Also to be clear, this is a large property that was to continue as a ministry, not one acre or even a half acre was to be inherited by the two daughters or any family member!!! This is not family greed, it is trusting friendship broken and destroyed by greed! Betrayal!
The litigation remains ongoing, involving a 414-acre property and their life estate so it is important not to prejudge matters that are still before the courts. But the larger issue goes far beyond one property or one family.
Small communities need to talk about elder abuse and exploitation. We need to know the warning signs, ask questions, check on our elderly neighbors, and make sure vulnerable people know they are not alone.

What has happened around this situation is truly heartbreaking to witness and hear about, and we hope sharing information responsibly can help another elderly person or family recognize the warning signs before it is too late.

What was once a beautiful homestead and a place intended to continue serving others through ministry looks very different today. Instead of the peaceful property so many remember, the land is now being used for logging and is filled with equipment, vehicles, debris/landfill, and other materials.
Most heartbreaking is seeing an elderly couple—who spent so many years giving back to their community—fighting simply to enjoy the home and life-estate rights they believe they are entitled to, while the litigation continues.
For those of us who have known them, visited the Welcome Inn, or witnessed their generosity over the years, it is incredibly difficult to watch, beyond difficult!
These photos help preserve the history of what the Welcome Inn was and why so many people care about what is happening to this property today and the love for their bunny ministry that has been targeted. đź’” It shows the destruction and the night pic was taken at 11:15 pm (one of many) No enjoyment of a life estate when this goes on at all hours! Very disturbing and scary for the elderly couple, also for their visitors that are less and less!
Elder exploitation and the protection of seniors’ property and housing rights deserve awareness—especially in small communities where vulnerable people can so easily feel unheard.
