School is starting tomorrow and let’s encourage all the young people we know to be kind to one another, to report bullying when it does happen and get help from trusted adults.

Bullying causes real mental and physical anguish and harm and can lead to permanent emotional trauma and mental illness as well as physical harm or suicide. It’s not child’s play it’s serious.

In the Florida Capitol Building, Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda invites the public to the Big Bend Anti-Bullying Task Force's screening of "Bullied: A Student, a School and a Case that Made History" & panel discussion on 1/25/11 to educate community on the seriousness of bullying

Always ready to fight for state workers. We have the hardest working state workers in the nation— we have ( last time I checked) the lowest number of state workers per capita in the nation.

Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda Observes 9/11

TALLAHASSEE - State Representative Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda attended the Day of Remembrance and Service on the 11th Anniversary of September 11th 2001 attacks on America. The observance was sponsored by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, Holland & Knight, and Volunteer Florida, and was held at FSU’s College of Law.

“I am honored to join my fellow citizens here at FSU’s College of law to honor those whose lives were lost on that tragic day eleven years ago. We can now look back on that day and confirm that this nation is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.
On this day, I am certain that the dwindling number of perpetrators of that horrific crime now comprehend that they will not have a moments rest or respite from looking over their shoulder for man, woman, or machine bearing the American flag and whose sites have set upon them.
Today is also a day to honor the courage of the first responders who risked their lives, as well as all of our men and women in uniform who have served and sacrificed, often far from home, to keep our nation safe.

And while this anniversary is about the people who serve our nation, we should also reflect upon where we have come as a country and the lessons that 9/11 has taught us, like the need to condemn intolerance and extremism, and the importance of staying true to our convictions as a diverse and tolerant society.
Here in Tallahassee, as in cities and towns across America, September 11 is a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The “I Will” campaign was launched in 2011, for the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. The result was extraordinary. 33 million Americans, from all 50 states, engaged in good deeds and charitable service as a constructive way of observing 9/11 last year. This outpouring of compassion transformed 9/11 into the nation's largest day of charitable service.

It is in this manner of public service and sharing that we will continue moving ahead toward our goal of building a safer, more equitable and more peaceful world. God bless America.”

A fascinating look at the evolution of solar energy | KSL.com

Solar panels are on our homes, businesses and potentially, someday, in our roads (and more). Exploding in popularity in recent years, the power alternative has proven successful for the modern age.

But what about in past ages? The sun has been around a long time, but for what use has it been to our ancestors?

Solar is in. It's efficient, good for the environment, and we want it. But what about in previous generations, previous civilizations? What was the value of sun's power to different civilizations back then?

10/08/2015

The Florida Department of Transportation plans to resurface 9.4 miles of existing travel lanes on State Road 10 (U.S. 90) from east of County Road 59 to east of Willow Street in both Leon and Jefferson Counties. In addition, this project consists of constructing 3.972 miles of paved shoulders and approximately 3,900 linear feet of new sidewalk. Drainage improvements, guardrail reconstruction and other minor safety upgrades will also be included. No additional right-of-way will be required. Construction is scheduled to begin summer 2016.

There is no public meeting planned for this project, however; the FDOT would like to provide you an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments regarding the improvements.

Scientists: ‘Runner’s high’ is like marijuana high

That happy, invincible feeling you get when you're floating through the air at the peak of a workout?

You've probably heard that it's something called endorphins that your body produced during prolonged exercise. That idea, which has been around since the ’80s, is based on the theory that these chemicals interact with receptors in the brain to reduce your perception of pain and some thought they may also give you that euphoric boost.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2015/10/08/scientists-runners-high-like-marijuana-high/

Research was only in mice, so it's unclear how it will apply to humans, but it is almost certainly intriguing enough to inspire followup studies.

How Hemp Can Can Clean Up Radiation From Fukushima Nuclear Disaster

The cannabis plant has myriad uses, from paper, fabric and even fuel that can be created from industrial hemp, to the many health conditions which benefit from medical marijuana. Here’s one more benefit to add to the list: removing toxic metals and even radiation from soil.

Hemp plants were shown to be effective in cleaning the soil around the site of Russia’s Chernobyl nuclear disaster and were even considered for use near Fukushima.

Good luck today! I'm rooting (and voting) for you!
I would like your views on the President's (Obama's) task Force on 21st century policing that is still in effect as far as I know. The corruption begins at the top and we are fortunate to have a President now ( Trump) that is exposing the corruption at the DoJ and FBI. ( The CIA and NSA can be explored later). Since the corrupt Bill Clinton, $14,000,000,000 have been sent to the states with the goal of merging local police with a national police force. The process involves demonizing the police, something we have again been seeing happen. We must keep our police local and accountable to the local citizens - not the national government. Programs like C.O.P.S. are suspect. I urge you to watch a couple videos and see if you don't agree with me that this is one of the pressing problems of out time.
