Himalayas visible for first time in 30 years as pollution levels in India drop

Here’s a positive side effect of lockdown.

As the lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus in India continues, pollution levels across much of the country have dropped sharply. Now some residents in northern India say they can see the snow-capped Himalayas 200 kilometres away for the first time in 30 years.

Wishing a Happy and Healthy Passover to all who Celebrate!

Florida Department of Health COVID-19 Response

We are all making changes to our lifestyles to help stop spreading Corona virus, from wearing masks in public to children going to school at home. We are all heroes in my book for working together to slow the virus. Keep all medical staff and first responders in your thoughts, and keep yourself safe! For updates and information check out https://floridahealthcovid19.gov/

The Florida Department of Health is issuing 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates every day to keep residents and visitors safe and aware.

Hope everyone is staying safe at home and taking advantage of the extra time with your families. This is a great time to call family members you have not talked to in a while!

Today I went to the Florida Brewers Guild Beer Festival in downtown Tampa. Craft beer brewers from all over Florida came out to show off their best, and it showed. One more reason to drink local! Plus I got to spend the beautiful day with my husband Dan Berman and by sister and brother in law, Ruth Berman and Mike Arra.

I know it’s been a few days since I have posted, but I’ve been busy! Aside from work, I attended a meeting with the HCBA community services committee to plan a Pirate Plunder Party for the foster kids at A Kids Place, and we have some great new ideas for this year. Also took a tour with Cecelia Mitchell of the non-profit Sickle Cell Awareness Association, which provides testing as well as community support in the form of counseling, events, and even tutors for the kids in the program. And of course working to get support for the campaign. But no pics, sorry! Next week: out of office!!!

Happy Strawberry Festival! Went to the annual festival luncheon and met the director of the festival and the strawberry festival queen and her court. Then on to the parade. Took lots of pics/ selfies with people, hope they find themselves here!

Yesterday I volunteered for an extraordinary event, the Hillsborough County Bar Association 5K and Food Festival. Got to meet some pre-law students from University of Tampa and spend a beautiful day with my colleagues and the judiciary. This event also encourages attorneys to provide pro bono services to members of the community. A full day dedicated to serving the citizens of Hillsborough county

Yesterday I attended a panel discussion called Judicial Races Matter, part of a series called Coffee with the Candidates. It’s always good to meet people who care about elections.

Attended the fundraising gala for the Children’s Home Society this past weekend. A great event for an even greater cause. Saw some old friends, met some new friends, and supported a great cause.

Been so busy on the campaign, I forgot to post these pics of my new friends at St Paul’s church!

Visited Fiesta Day in Ybor City yesterday. Lots of great food, entertainment and fun. Even met people registering others to vote!

Went to Tea and Conversation yesterday and met all kinds of new people who are truly interested in improving our community. Thank you to Candy Lowe for making this possible.

Watch this drum line go!

Attended the 32nd Annual City of Tampa Black History Month Celebration. It was a well attended event with Emcee Rod Carter from News Channel 8, a fantastic speaker, Ursula Kay Odum, singer Kay Renae, and the Lockhart Elementary Drum Line, which is full of talented students that could rival many high schools. Great job!

Attended a pet adoption event this weekend in Riverview with Rescue Cats of Florida and Paws for a Cause, and animal rescue club at Newsome High School. I even got a dog adopted with the express foster program with the Pet Resource Center. Through these rescues, 4 of the 5 dogs brought to the event were adopted out that day, and 1 found a foster home to get out of the shelter. Not to mention the several kittens that went to good families that day. Great job by the rescues!

Yesterday I attended the southeast Seminole Heights civic association 18th annual chili cook off. I don’t live in Seminole Heights, but I had heard this was a great community and decided to check it out. So I made a dessert and went with my husband Dan Berman. I’m so glad I did! Such a great group of people, they welcomed me like we were old friends. It’s great to see a community that is so close knit and cares about each other.

Sometimes the practice of law is like herding kittens. But I love it! Especially when there are actual kittens. These babies will be up for adoption by Rescue Cats of Florida on February 28 if anyone is interested.

Today I had a lovely lunch with the “women who do” -the Tampa chapter of Hadassah with my good friend Anita Shur Greenberg. These women definitely know how to make things happen! Great to see incoming president Michele Norris, honorees Jane Strom and Betty Shallet, Sharon Cross, Joyce Karpay, and a great musical performance by Joy Katzen-Guthrie.

Bark in the Park was a great and well attended success yesterday! Congrats to Humane Society of Tampa Bay and Sherry Silk for a fantastic event. I even got to meet a young published author. Of course, I was in dog lovers heaven! I had to stop every 2 feet to say hello to a new furry friend, and got to play on the playground with my goddaughter.

Uptown Chamber of Commerce

So enjoyed the February get-together with the Uptown Chamber of Commerce at Mission Barbecue. What a great bunch of folks working hard to improve the business climate and community in Temple Terrace!

Our mission is to promote business, enhance economic and community development, and serve as a catalyst for improving the overall quality of life in Uptown (City of Temple Terrace, Tampa & Hillsborough County).

Attended the Fresh from Florida breakfast this morning at the State Fair. Met so many new friends, learned a good bit about agriculture from the FFH and 4H clubs, and even met honeybee royalty! The turnout by the local Chambers was fantastic.

Attended a discussion group on the business climate in New Tampa. It was great to meet some neighbors and truly inspiring to see so many people come together interested in improving our neighborhood. Thanks to USF for giving the informational presentation and to Mayor Jane Castor and Councilman Vierra for their attendance, their interest and support of our community.

I am honored to serve once again as the elected chairperson of the Animal Advisory Committee under the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). I am proud to assist in making our community a better place by working with and for the BOCC and the Pet Resource Center.

Attender the Annual Presidents Dinner this week with Dan Berman. The speaker really engaged the audience considering the serious subject matter if antisemitism. Met some great ladies with some beautiful flowers too!

Attended the Tiger Bay Lifetime Achievement awards dinner this week honoring Julianne Holt, our public defender, and Doug Belden our tax collector. Two people who really care about our community and have made such a difference to so many. Could not have picked two more deserving recipients for this years award.

Walked in the Martin Luther King parade today. Made lots of new friends, threw lots of beads, and had to stop for a few cute puppies. Thank you to everyone who walked to support my campaign today!

Great turn out tonight at The Collective networking happy hour event for Bay Area Legal Services! Always good to see old and new friends out for a good cause.

Wishing everyone who celebrates a very happy Hanukkah and wonderful holiday season

Had a wonderful time at the holiday party for Bay Area Legal Services. I have been a volunteer with this nonprofit organization for many years and I’ve served on the board as well. Many of the folks in this picture are part of the volunteer attorneys program, and they make a difference helping people with their legal issues every day. It’s an honor to share a meal with them!

Merry Christmas Plant City! It was great to meet new friends and share the holiday spirit. Thank you everyone for your support, and especially for the volunteers that walked in the parade for my campaign.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I was thankful that I spent the day with my family and friends with plenty to eat and lots of love and laughs. Hope you all had the same.

Yesterday I had the privilege of helping others in Tampa by volunteering at the Bay Area Legal Services family law forms clinic. Everyone deserves their day in court, and this clinic ensures that parties that can not afford an attorney can get help.

What a great morning! Today I volunteered for the Buddy Run. It’s is 5K fundraiser to help support Buddy baseball, which allows children with disabilities to play baseball with a “buddy” that helps by doing the parts of the game the person has trouble doing. And as a bonus, I got to spend the morning with all the other awesome volunteers including Jeanine Cohen, my husband Dan Berman, members of Congregation Beth Am and employees if the Lawfirm Shutts Bowen. To bad no one remembered to turn in he heat this morning!

Thank you for visiting my campaign page. I am truly thrilled at having the opportunity to run for circuit court judge in 2020, and hope I will have the opportunity to continue to serve my community in that office if elected. The campaign is a long and tiring process, which will be easier to complete with friends like you on my side.
