We are excited to announce that The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity has named the University of South Florida (USF) and Florida Holocaust Museum as the permanent homes of the papers and artifacts of Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor who became an esteemed humanitarian, writer, and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Wiesel’s physical and digitized papers, including correspondence with world leaders, unfinished manuscripts, photographs, and video and audio recordings will be housed and catalogued at the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library’s Special Collections Department on the USF St. Petersburg campus. Artifacts from his collection, including his Nobel Prize, the contents of his personal office and library, and a variety of artworks will become a cornerstone of the permanent exhibition at the museum, which is located in downtown St. Petersburg.

"The USF Libraries look forward to ensuring these materials and the stories they represent are shared through ongoing teaching and research initiatives, securing opportunities for scholars and students to both learn and create new knowledge from Elie Wiesel’s invaluable archive,” says Kristina Keogh, campus dean of the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library.

Well, August sure slipped by in a flash! ⌛⚡

In honor of the new month, here’s a flashback to a historic newspaper issue published 140 years ago today - September 1, 1883! The To***co Leaf was called the “Organ of the To***co Trade in the United States” and “The Largest Special Trade Paper in the World.”

The paper featured "Communications from our readers, containing items of to***co news, or views on topics of interest to the trade, such as the crops and markets, methods of culture and curing, processes of manufacture, new implements and machinery, etc., etc." Obviously, people had a lot to say about to***co back then.

You can check out some digitized copies in our Special Collections online repository! Thanks to our amazing team for the post info!

This. Is. So. Cool.

Dog-trot homes, like the Moseley Homestead, feature large and open breezeway areas that runs bisect the house, with two living areas found on either side, but all occurring under one roof. This form of is commonly seen in the South and gets its name in part because dogs were often kept there and could trot between portions of the house. Before air-conditioning and electricity, the Moseley Homestead took advantage of passive cooling, with the dog-trot catching the breezes and providing an outdoor living space.

National Parks and Recreation go together like USF Libraries and USF Recreation & Wellness 🤝🏾💪🏽🌲🥾 OK, you might think that's a stretch but this month's theme celebrates National Parks & Recreation month by curating a collection of recreation-themed books for you to peruse. Speaking of gander and outdoors things...we've got another mama duck outside. Our amazing operations team has been keeping her watered during these 🥵 days and we're excited to get a peep at her clutch of eggs. How many do you think she's got? 🪺🥚🐣🐥
