What a remarkable experience last night at Photography Wide Open - an experience designed to explore how the act of seeing can impact our perception and well being. The intersections of cognition, linguistics and photography is a place I have inhabited since I first began studying speech-language pathology. Integrating art and photography into my clinical practice made sense from the start. It brought me great peace as a child to draw side by side with my grandfather or simply to watch him draw my favorite characters to life. Repeating that simple experience of co-creating drawings, photographs and even paper airplanes has helped me connect with countless students over the years. It was a rare and welcome wonder last night to find myself in the room with so many others who are mindful of the relationship between photography and neuroscience as well as the place of photography among the healing arts. Thank you to Fotophase | Neuroarts & Photography and Wide Open Art for planning this event for the UN General Assembly Healing Arts Week. A special thanks to Kiran Karnani Mark de Paola Alessia de Paola, MD Sage Backstrom and Ahmad Beyh for creating such an experience and for sharing your vision, experience and knowledge with us. 🙏

An Alaskan triptych No. 1. Never did I ever think I’d get a call from LIV on Saturday and pull off a flight to Alaska on Sunday but by the power of Alaska Airlines miles and good friends like Mia Pagnozzi M and Suzanne who jumped in to cat sit this past week on a moment’s notice - that is just what happened. Feeling so grateful right now for such amazing friends, experiencing the midnight sun and immeasurable beauty.

My feed has been flooded with Glen Hansard for days now, and I’d be just fine if it stayed that way. These photos of are from Tarrytown Music Hall in March 2024. If you zoom into the bottom left of the third image, you can see the saw dust falling to the ground as he played like none other.
