We don't just talk about being fiscal conservatives, we have a track record to PROVE it. It's simple really - we adopt balanced budgets; we're not going to spend more than we're bringing in. We will make the most of every dollar AND look for ways to save! That might seem like common sense, but Boards before us have adopted budget deficits because they couldn't or wouldn't control their spending (your tax dollars).

Look at the graph: When a new conservative majority was elected in 2024, we turned a $11 million budget deficit into a BALANCED budget. And we did it again this year. PLUS we cut the tax rate. And we're going to keep balancing budgets under our conservative majority (Conservatives for Conroe ISD), even as other similarly sized districts are NOT doing this. Thank you to our CFO Karen Garza and her amazing team for their judicious efforts - we know it isn't easy.

Let's talk about property taxes. PLEASE SHARE!

There's 2 very important questions everyone should ask of their local school board members:

1) What is your tax rate philosophy?
2) Who do you represent as a Trustee?

Property tax discussions are increasingly taking center stage across Texas, and school districts play a CENTRAL role in this. Why? HALF of your property tax bill goes to local ISDs. HALF. We don't just oversee academic performance, although that's hugely important, we set the tax rate that directly affects your financial bottom line! No one talks about this.

Why does the Texas Education Code give Boards authority to set tax rates and not the district? It's simple. Boards represent the District (which includes students/staff) AND taxpayers, regardless if you have kids in the district or not. We are elected by BOTH and we're the only ones who should take BOTH groups into account when making decisions. That can be hard!!

Some groups and press outlets seem completely tone deaf and out of touch with the plight of struggling taxpayers. I’d like to see them say what they are saying online to the faces of the 10,000 people standing in line for hours to get a backpack and supplies. Here's the bigger picture they are missing:

* We're not the only taxing entity taxing you, and it all adds up. There's 6+ others - county, city/township, emergency services, hospital district, lonestar college, and MUD - this can be even more than school taxes if you're in a newer subdivison.
* Your overall tax bill continues to increase because MCAD has raised your property values 90% over the last 10 years!
* Commodity and grocery prices continue to increase while wages across industries remain stagnant.

A good Board member should be paying attention to this context. Because again, we represent EVERYONE in this district. The majority of the Board has made it clear where we stand:

We lowered your tax rate to the lowest rate in the last 10 years to give you some relief.

We can do that while also adopting a BALANCED budget AND taking a strategic look at our debt service for long-term sustainability. That's another topic for another post, which will come soon.

🚨 Endorsement alert! 🚨 It is mine, and mine alone.

We attended a great event today with District Attorney Mike Holly. I was joined by the Conservatives for Conroe ISD candidates Misty, Rod, and Aggie. They are the REAL deal and they have my full endorsement for the CISD Board of Trustees. Their conservative values are proven, and their various professional and Board experiences make them the most well rounded, impactful group I’d be honored to serve alongside.

Please follow their pages and support them!
Misty for CISD
Rod Hammer for Conroe ISD
Aggie for CISD

👏🏻Thank you to the ENTIRE Woodlands Township Board for thinking of taxpayers and lowering the tax rate. With prices remaining high and wages stagnant across industries, our community needs relief wherever it can get it!

After four days of budget discussion, The Woodlands Township voted 6-1 on a $0.1594 per 100 of taxable value for the proposed maintenance and operations tax rate for fiscal year 2026.

I’d like to know who in the former administration hired PASA to do our demography study? This study in 2023 was used to sell a $1.9 Billion bond that we are now going to be forced to restructure our debt service because projections were so clearly inaccurate. Thank you Dr. Vinson for having the wisdom to hire Zonda to do a realistic study recently to get accurate numbers.

And also thank you to the previous administration for putting us in this situation.
