History

The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company began in 1938 when community members became concerned about the lack of fire protection in the area. The company was not officially organized until one year later in 1939, when the original 12 members began servicing the village of Thorndale. The charter of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company was issued on April 18, 1939.

The Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company has come along way since its organization in 1939. History will continue to be made as the members of the company step into the future.

On September 21'st, the Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom was joined by both of the Downingtown fire departments (Minquas Fire Company No. 2 and Alert Fire Co. No. 1) for a live burn training at the Chester County Public Safety Training Campus
Earlier today, our volunteers from the Alert Fire Co. No. 1, Minquas Fire Company No. 2, Fame Fire Co. No. 3, West Bradford Fire Co. and Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom participated in the second part of the Advanced Line Systems Water Rescue training.

The team learned how to set-up a Moveable Control Point and the Direct Contact Rescue by a Tethered Swimmer today.

The training was taught by WhiteCap Water Rescue Training, LLC. The Downingtown Fire Dept. Water Rescue Team would like to thank Tel Hai Retirement Community for allowing us to use the indoor swimming pool for our training today.
Tonight is the Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom's Open House!
TBT - 35 Years ago, starting on September 5, 1987, the Alert volunteers started a one week long celebration with the Housing of our new 1987 Heavy Rescue and Ladder Tower. Below, is an excerpt from the History of the Alert Fire Co. No. 1:

"September 5 - 12, 1987 the men and women of the Alert Fire Co. celebrated their 100th Anniversary by having the fifth Grand Triple Celebration, with the largest parade ever in Chester County. The celebration started on the evening of September 5th at 7:00 PM, with the housing of the two new trucks and the dedication of the new Engine Room addition to Mr. Swank. Dancing and refreshments were enjoyed by the estimated 175 to 200 guests after the dedication in the engine room. President Robert Stevens was the Master of Ceremonies for the gala evening. Borough Council President William J. Whiteman made the official presentation of the two new trucks to fire department Chief Richard J. Keers. The new rescue truck was then housed by members of the Uwchlan Ambulance Corps, East Brandywine Fire Company, West Bradford Fire Co. and Minquas Fire Company No. 2. The housing of the new ladder tower was followed by the Lionville Fire Company, West Whiteland Fire Company, Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom and Minquas Fire Companies.

Throughout the week there were several fire company functions including a week long Open House to the public, an “Old-Timers Night”, which honored all of the past living and deceased Active and Social members of the company."

A huge THANK YOU to Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom, Westwood Fire Company, Caln Township Police Department and Coatesville Fire Department for escorting our Caln 10u Girls Softball 2022 Eastern Region Champions on the parade route from Coatesville High School to the Caln AA Complex this evening. Last night Station 39 was dispatched to assist Station 38 (Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom) with a reported dwelling fire. It was determined to be a culinary mishap and the assignment was quickly scaled back to 38 and 39 units. 39 units that made the response Eng 39-1, Tac 39, Chief 39, Deputy 39 and 39 Fire Police.
I rented the banquet hall at Thorndale Vol. Fire Company for my baby shower June 2022 and was very disappointed to receive this e-mail from Caitlin Thomas, Banquet Hall Chairperson, "It has been brought to my attention that the hall floor was left a mess Saturday evening, confetti was used and left through out the hall floor and on the stage. As well as a white waxy residue spilled, when removing this wax residue that was spilled from our floor it removed the floor polish/finish. Pictures have been attached for your reference. Unfortunately due to the way the hall was left, the extra time our cleaners had to spend cleaning up the confetti and the conditions/rules in the contract not being followed your security deposit of $250.00 will not be refunded".
There were literally 12 small pieces of confetti in the pictures that she provided, we swept the floors before we left but the hall didn't provide a vacuum cleaner. Withholding our security deposit for $250 is very unreasonable when it would have taken them literally a minute to remove the few pieces of confetti. I would not recommend using this facility as this is a total rip off.

Volunteers of the WCFD’s Good Will Fire Company #2 of West Chester were on standby covering both the Paoli Fire Company while their members hosted a community open house and at the Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom while their members were assigning with the annual Strawberry Festival.

Tonight 39 crews traveled to Glenmoore to train in an acquired structure on primary search in a limited visibility environment as well as throwing ladders to windows on the exterior of buildings. Crews were able to get through multiple evolutions with different scenarios. A huge thanks to Glen Moore Fire Company for allowing us access to the building as well as Thorndale Fire Company and Clubroom and Minquas Fire Company No. 2 for covering our coverage area while the company was training. If this looks exciting or interesting to you you can come up to the station on Thursday nights between 7-9 pm and inquire about volunteer positions with our company. There are many different positions within our organization and can always use a helping hand!
A few more shots and videos from last night's training!
