A rare glimpse of Tiburon before the November 1890 fire.

Our Spring 2026 newsletter features this remarkable photograph showing both the Tiburon Hotel & Saloon and the Sonoma House hotel, a detail that helps historians date the image to before the devastating fire of 1890. In the foreground, you can spot the railroad roundhouse and railyard, while the lagoon and the northern tip of Belvedere stretch into the distance.

The photo accompanies our newest article exploring the fascinating years when Tiburon’s Main Street was still known as Water Street, tracing the town’s transformation between 1882 and 1906.

This story is just one of many compelling pieces featured in the Spring edition of the Landmarks newsletter.
