I would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all who supported me in my campaign and those that voted for me in the general election. This is my first time seeking elected public office. I look forward to working with other county officials and the residents of Seneca County. A new beginning is coming to the office of Seneca County Coroner.

It was a great day on Saturday to attend the 182nd Seneca County Fair!

I had the opportunity to interact with several other county leaders and numerous members of the public as Seneca County Coroner-Elect.

At the Seneca County Republican Party Fair Headquarters you can grab some popcorn, interact with your elected officials, ask questions of candidates for office and pick up a Trump/Vance sign!

The fair continues on Sunday so be sure to stop out!

Dr. Zachary K. West, the Republican nominated candidate and Seneca County Coroner-Elect, was invited to participate in 2024 Tiffin University Forensic Science Academy Camp.

The Tiffin University Forensic Science Academy Camp is designed for high school students entering as junior and seniors. Participants work with Tiffin University professors and various experts in the fields of crime scene analysis, fire forensics, blood spatter, forensic biology and forensic chemistry to learn principles and tactics to assist in criminal investigations. Participants also learn how to handle the mental and emotional challenges of this kind of career from current and past Death Investigators and Coroners.

Dr. West was invited to join Dr. John Schupp (Assistant Professor of Chemistry), Dr. Mazi Davis (Professor of Biology) and Dr. Andrew Savage (Assistant Professor of Biology) during the autopsy lab experience of the camp. Participants performed an autopsy dissection of pigs, identified anatomy and made notation of observations regarding the manner of death of the subject. Dr. West was also able to share with participants the process of becoming a licensed physician in Ohio and becoming an Ohio Coroner.

It was an honor to be invited to interact and engage with students. Thank you to Tiffin University and Dr. John Schupp.

West Wins Coroner Primary

SENECA COUNTY – According to unofficial results by the Seneca County Board of Elections, Dr. Zachary West has won the Republican primary election for Seneca County Coroner.

West is the owner and founder of the Ohio Institute of Osteopathic Medicine in Tiffin. He serves as a physician at the practice.

He currently serves as the vice president of the Seneca County Board of Health. West graduated from Old Fort Local Schools and went on to earn his associate degree in science from Terra State Community College. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in science at Youngstown State University.

West earned his master’s degree in public health from the Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health and earned a doctorate in osteopathic medicine from (Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“I bring to the position integrity, attention to detail and professionalism along with a steadfast commitment to always do what is right,” he told the A-T when asked why he would be the best candidate for the position. “I have demonstrated my ability to build relationships and to take on tasks and deliver results.”

He received 3,243 votes, while incumbent Dr. Mark Akers received 3,071. West will be uncontested in the November election.

Akers served as Seneca County Coroner for 19 years.
