Today Chief Dan Quigley graduated from Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command class #625.

SPSC is an upper-level college instruction with 27 core instructional blocks with additional optional blocks in each section. Major topics include: Leadership, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Organizational Behavior, Applied Statistics, Budgeting, Planning and Policy Development and Resource Allocation.

Each student is academically challenged through written examinations, presentations and quizzes in addition to a staff study which are all required parts of the curriculum. Upon successful completion graduates may be awarded up to 6 units of undergraduate credit from Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois.

Chief Quigley wants to extend his gratitude to Mayor Brian Sokol, the Toledo City Council, and City Administrator Kendall Jordan for awarding him the opportunity to take part of this course. Additionally he thanks his family and TPD staff for their patience during the 22 weeks of class.

He looks forward to utilize the tools learned from this course to better serve the community.

From the desk of Chief Quigley:

This week our nation celebrates National Police Week. President John F. Kennedy designated May 15th as Peace Officer Memorial Day, and during that week, law enforcement is recognized.

In honor of this week, it was my privilege to recognize some of my team members at our regular city council meeting.

Officers Igor Dias and Andrew Bunce were recognized for completing their probationary period. Lt. Nathan Wunn was recognized for 10 years of service with Toledo PD.

Officer Bunce was awarded a letter of commendation for his dedicated efforts into an investigation of dependent adult abuse and theft. Without his diligent work, the voice of the victim may have gone unheard. Officer Bunce took this case on during his Field Training period. As a result of his investigation, the defendant was charged with Dependent Adult Abuse and theft in the second degree. The defendant has plead guilty to the charges as filed. Additionally, during the course of Officer Bunce's investigation other criminal acts were discovered and several additional charges were filed to include felonies. Those charges are currently pending. This casework stood out because of his experience at the time of the investigation. He spent hours reviewing data and records to put the case together for prosecution. Truly a job well done.

NEW SCAM ALERT: Citizens have been getting a new fake traffic citation scam, now with an "official notice" from St. Louis County Municipal court. For those that aren't geography whizzes... There is not a St. Louis County in the great state of Iowa. Additionally, the code section cited is for leaving the scene of an accident, NOT failing to pay a toll. Please take note and do not fall victim to this scam!

Please see the below message from Tama County Sheriff's Office. We are seeing an influx in these types of scams, with two reports of them from Toledo residents today! Please share with your loved ones.

The Sheriff got a text on his personal phone from the โ€œIowa Courtโ€ saying pay a traffic ticket or else.

Or else whatโ€ฆ you gonna text us again?

At first glance, it looks real enough to make you stop and think for a second. Thatโ€™s the whole point. Thatโ€™s how these scumbag scammers operate.

๐—œ๐—ง'๐—ฆ ๐—ก๐—ข๐—ง ๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—”๐—Ÿ!

The court system is ๐—ก๐—ข๐—ง sending random texts with links that look like they were thrown together in someoneโ€™s basement at 2 in the morning.

๐—ง๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—บ. Not even a good one once you slow down and look at it.

And yeah, these scumbag scammers sent it to the Sheriff. So no, youโ€™re not โ€œtoo smartโ€ or โ€œnot on their list.โ€ They blast this junk out to everyone hoping somebody clicks.

Hereโ€™s your rule.

And to the scumbag scammers behind thisโ€ฆ you might fool someone for a second, but once people actually look at it, it becomes evidently clear.

It has been brought to our attention that there are dangerous rumors spreading about the events that occurred at the South Tama County Community School District Middle School on March 6, 2026. Let me take the opportunity to dispel those rumors. There were NO weapons, fi****ms, etc located at the school. A student DID NOT possess a weapon. There were NO shots fired. There was NOT a written list of "targets". Please know the facts before spreading these rumors.

As stated yesterday, STC Administrators and Toledo Police worked together upon being informed of statements made approximately 3 weeks prior among a small group of students. It was determined that there is NO credible threat to the school or community.

We will continue to work with STC Administrators anytime there is concerns about the safety of the school environment. These matters are taken seriously. Timely reporting of concerns are encouraged and should be directed to STC Administration, SRO Jefferson, local law enforcement or through the Safe and Sound Iowa app.

Thank you to the Tama Police Department and the Meskwaki Nation Police Department for their assistance during the investigation into the matter.
